The present disclosure generally relates to hydroxyalkylurethanes obtained from the reaction of amines and alkylene carbonates and their use in gas hydrate inhibitor compositions to effectively inhibit gas hydrate formation in a crude hydrocarbon stream.

The present disclosure provides a poly(vinyl caprolactam) polymer obtained by polymerizing a vinyl lactam compound in a polymerization solvent system comprising an alkylene carbonate and/or an alkyl lactate and a polymerization initiator. The poly(vinyl caprolactam) polymer, in admixture with the polymerization solvent system, may be used as a kinetic gas hydrate inhibitor to prevent or inhibit formation of natural gas and/or liquid hydrocarbon hydrates in a system.

During 'fracking' operations, proppants are used to keep open the fissures that are created, and stimulation fluids are often injected into the subterranean hydrocarbon-bearing geological formations to assist in capturing released hydrocarbons. However, because fissure surfaces formed in subterranean hydrocarbon-bearing geological formations from fracking tend to be hydrophobic, both introduced stimulation fluids and the hydrocarbons from the subterranean hydrocarbon-bearing geological formations tend to adhere to the fissure surfaces. The addition of a gemini surfactant appears to reduce the hydrophobic nature of the geological structure's fissure surfaces, thereby wetting surfaces of indigenous rock and/or introduced proppant surfaces. The addition of the gemini surfactant results in an increase of the fluid flow through the subterranean hydrocarbon-bearing geological formations, thereby enhancing of recovery of hydrocarbons and introduced stimulation fluids.

The present disclosure provides water-based well treatment fluids for use in treating subterranean formations to prevent swelling and/or migration of fines. The water-based well treatment fluid contains an aqueous continuous phase, a clay stabilizing agent consisting of an alkylated polyetheramine and a weighting material. A well service fluid composition comprises a fracturing fluid and a gas hydrate inhibitor. Preferably, the gas hydrate inhibitor does not affect the function of the fracturing fluid and is present in an amount sufficient to control and/or minimize the formation of gas hydrates. The well service fluid composition is useful in hydraulic fracturing in which the composition is injected into a subterranean formation under sufficient pressure to initiate and propagate a fracture in the formation.
