The present invention relates to a device and a method for extracting physiological information from detected electromagnetic radiation emitted or reflected by a subject. A data stream derived from detected electromagnetic radiation is received. The data stream comprises a continuous or discrete characteristic signal including physiological information indicative of at least one vital parameter, the characteristic signal comprising at least one indicative signal component representative of a detected spectral portion indicative of the at least one vital parameter. However, the images obtained by these cameras suffer from a reduced signal-to-noise ratio due to specular reflectance from light reflecting off the skin of the infant. By including radiation scattering structures within the incubator walls and light sources arranged along the edges of the incubator walls, diffuse illumination may be achieved, specular reflectance may be reduced, and the above-mentioned adverse affects on the signal-to-noise ratio of the camera images may be avoided and/or reduced.

The invention relates to a control system () for an ambient light environment in a room in a hospital environment. The control system is configured to time and synchronize light effects of the ambient light environment () in response to sensor signals (-) from patient location sensors () or other sensors () for detecting if a clinical instrument is activated, moved or taken into use or for detecting heart rate. Light effects may be used by the clinical personnel to improve quality and speed of the examination and to create a calming atmosphere for the patient. An analyzer determines the change in blood oxygen saturation of said plurality of skin pixels based on the data signals of said plurality of skin pixels. A selector selects a group of skin pixels comprising either the skin pixels showing the fastest change in blood oxygen saturation or said plurality of skin pixels except for skin pixels showing the slowest change in blood oxygen saturation. A processor determines the blood oxygen saturation of the subject based on the data signals of the selected group of skin pixels.
