A mud logging system for receiving and displaying conditions measured during the drilling of a well includes a plurality of units for receiving and processing signals from sensors responsive to the values of the conditions. A/D convertors in each of said units produce digital representations of signals received from the sensors and the digital representations are utilized with visual display means in the units for digitally displaying values of the conditions. A slave computer of the digital type is interfaced with the A/D converters and a file disk. Under control of said slave computer the digital representatives are transferred to the file disk, and a recorder also under control of the slave computer displays selected ones of the conditions. The system also includes a master computer of the digital type connected to access data on the file disk, to utilize the accessed data to provide for analysis of drilling conditions.

Method and apparatus for monitoring and controlling well drilling

An antenna system suitable for airborne use is disclosed. The system is of the type having a blade forming a folded monopole antenna with one terminal serving as a radio frequency input and a second terminal connectable to tuning apparatus. Tuning components switchable to various values are connected at the second terminal. A processor receives the value of a new frequency to be used, computes from stored reference values the values of tuning components calculated to render the antenna in tune at the selected frequency, and commands the switching of the tuning components to the calculated values. A phase discriminator at the first terminal provides the processor with an indication of the extent to which the antenna is in tune at the selected frequency. If it is not in tune, the processor iteratively commands the switching of the tuning components until new values are reached for which the antenna is in tune. Then, in response to the new tuning component values, the processor can compute and store new reference values. After some period of use, the adaptive nature of the system results in an antenna which can switch from frequency to frequency at speeds compatible with contemporary radio designs.

Digitally tuned electrically small antenna

A radio navigation antenna system suitable for use in an aircraft is disclosed. The fed element of the system is stationary, being at one end of a coaxial conductor which extends through a hollow shaft of a motor. Mounted around the hollow shaft is a ground plane disc capacitively coupled to the outer sleeve of the coaxial conductor, thereby avoiding the use of brushes in the system. A cylindrical dielectric antenna support is mounted on the ground plane disc around the fed element. A T-shaped reflector is formed by a conductive layer on the cylindrical surface of the antenna support.

Radio navigation antenna system for aircraft

Crossed dipole antenna apparatus configured so that the ends of adjacent dipoles are connected together to form a version of folded dipole antennas wherein there are slot antennas between adjacent dipole antennas. The combination slot and dipole antennas provide relatively broadband usable frequency range with acceptable radiation patterns.
