An axle assembly having a pair of axle half shafts and an axle housing defining a sump. The axle assembly further includes a first clutch assembly including a first half and a second half, wherein the first half is selectively engaged to the second half. The axle assembly also includes a second clutch assembly disposed adjacent to the first clutch assembly, wherein the second clutch includes a gear and the gear is selectively engaged with the second half of the first clutch assembly. Yet further, the axle assembly includes a lubrication pump mounted in the axle housing and drivingly coupled to the second clutch assembly; a spring mounted between the first half and the second half of the first clutch assembly; and a bearing disposed between the spring and the second half of the first clutch assembly.

Axle assembly with lubrication pump

An axle assembly including a lubrication pump operably configured to distribute lubricating fluid within the axle assembly. The lubrication pump includes a fluid inlet port, a fluid outlet port, an air inlet port, and an air outlet valve; a pump housing interposed between the first end and the second end; a piston reservoir disposed in the pump housing, wherein the piston reservoir has a first side and a second side, wherein the second side is in fluid communication with the air inlet port; a piston disposed in the piston reservoir between the first side and the second side; a first check valve housed within the inlet port; a second check valve housed within the outlet port; and one or more biasing members interposed between the piston and the fluid inlet port and the fluid outlet port in the first side of the piston reservoir.

An axle assembly having an axle housing with a center portion defining a sump and one or more axle shaft housings extending from the center portion. Each of the axle shaft housings receives an axle half shaft. The axle housing includes a differential assembly having a ring gear; and a lubrication directing assembly disposed directly adjacent to the ring gear. The axle assembly also includes a pump mounted in one or more of the axle shaft housings and is drivingly coupled to a pump gear. The pump gear is drivingly coupled to the axle half shaft. The axle assembly also includes an axle housing cover surrounding the axle housing. A fluid storage tank is attached to the housing cover, wherein the fluid storage tank includes a fill channel directly attached to the housing cover.

Axle assembly with variable speed pump

An axle assembly having an axle housing including a differential assembly having a ring gear and a lubrication directing assembly disposed directly adjacent to the ring gear. The lubrication directing assembly having a first lubrication flow surface, a second lubrication flow surface, and a trough. The axle assembly also includes an axle housing cover surrounding the axle housing. A fluid storage tank is attached to the housing cover, wherein the fluid storage tank includes a fill channel directly attached to the rear housing cover; an expandable air bladder disposed in the fluid storage tank; and a first valve disposed below the air bladder and in contact with the air bladder.

An apparatus for regulating lubricant having a carrier housing including a lubricant sump. A ring gear disposed within the carrier housing, wherein the ring gear is partially disposed in the lubricant sump. A lubricant catch is disposed in the carrier housing, and a reservoir is disposed outside of the carrier housing. A first conduit is disposed between the lubricant catch and the reservoir. A second conduit is disposed between the reservoir and the lubricant sump. A valve is in fluid communication with the reservoir and the lubricant sump.

Active oil management system for axles

An axle disconnect and differential locking system for single or multiple axle vehicles which allows the vehicle to selectively engage and disengage an axle half shaft from the differential side gear. Additionally, the system allows the vehicle to selectively switch between locked and unlocked differential driving modes. The system has a first position, a second position and a third position. At the first position, the system is not meshingly engaged with the differential side gear or the differential case. At the second position, the system is meshingly engaged with the differential side gear but is not meshingly engaged with the differential case. At the third position, the system is engaged with the differential side gear and the differential case. In one embodiment the system is a sliding collar. According to another embodiment, the system includes an axle disconnect collar, a differential locking collar and a biasing member disposed therebetween.
