A method for scrubbing flue gas, comprising: providing a rotating packed bed device onboard a ship or an offshore floating vessel; mixing seawater with the flue gas under centrifugal force in the rotating packed bed device to prevent blow-by and produce a scrubbed flue gas having low sulfur; and discharging the scrubbed flue gas; wherein the scrubbed flue gas has less than half of the sulfur that was originally present in the flue gas before the mixing. Also, a system for scrubbing the flue gas according to the method described. Also, a marine ship, comprising: an engine that combusts HSFO; a rotating packed bed device, in a hull or funnel of the ship, comprising a rotating shaft and a porous material that mixes seawater with flue gas and reduces sulfur in the flue gas; and a connector from the engine and the rotating packed bed device.

Methods and systems for removing contaminants from flue gas on a ship or offshore floating vessel using a rotating packed bed device

Seawater is deaerated using a rotating packed bed device having one or more rotatable packing rings within a housing, a liquid inlet for infusing seawater into an interior region defined by the packing rings, a gas outlet for accepting gas which has passed radially inwardly through the packing rings and removing the gas from the interior region, and a liquid outlet for removing a deaerated seawater stream from the housing. A shaft coupled to a motor drives the packing rings causing the packing rings to rotate. The feed seawater stream passes radially outwardly through each of the packing rings thereby forming the deaerated seawater stream having a lower concentration of oxygen, air and/or carbon dioxide therein than the feed seawater stream and a gas stream having been removed from the feed seawater stream. The deaerated seawater stream is then injected into a hydrocarbon producing reservoir in an EOR process.

Systems and methods for deaerating seawater using a rotating packed bed device

The present invention relates to a method and system for removing an impurity from a feed gas stream. Various embodiments include, for example, using a rotating packed bed, a pressure reducing device such as a turbine and/or control valve, a regenerator, and novel internal seal designs and liquid distributors. Advantageously, at least a portion of any energy produced is recycled for use in the process or elsewhere.

Additionally, a method for producing a lube oil which includes isomerization dewaxing of a base oil fraction is disclosed, wherein prior to the isomerization dewaxing step, the base oil fraction is contacted with an adsorbent including an organic heterocyclic salt deposited on a support.

Denitrification of a hydrocarbon feed

Provided is a method for contacting a gas with a liquid in a rotating packed bed. The method comprises providing a rotating packed bed comprising two sets of rotatable packing rings disposed within a chamber and defining an interior region. The rotating packed bed also comprises at least one liquid distributor with an inlet for accepting a liquid, the inlet in communication with an exit port for infusing the liquid into the interior region. The liquid distributor also comprises at least one gas outlet for accepting gas which has passed through the packed bed and for removing the gas from the interior region. The two sets of rotatable packing rings are caused to rotate. Liquid is infused into the interior region by way of the liquid inlet, and gas is injected through at least one gas inlet into the interior region, with the liquid and gas passing through each of the packing rings in countercurrent flow. Liquid is removed from the interior region through a liquid outlet, and gas is removed through the gas outlet in the liquid distributor.

A process for adsorbing aromatic sulfur compounds, where an adsorbent is contacted with a C-Caromatic and/or aliphatic stream which comprises a solution of (i) at least one benzothiophene compound, (ii) a solvent which comprises at least one C-Caliphatic compound, and (iii) optionally at least one C-Caromatic compound. In this process, the adsorbent is regenerated using an organic regenerant such as, but not limited to, toluene. Also disclosed is another process for adsorbing aromatic sulfur compounds. In this process, an adsorbent is contacted with a mixture comprising a model diesel feed comprising at least one benzothiophene compound. In this process, the adsorbent is regenerated using an organic regenerant such as, but not limited to, toluene.

Adsorption of dibenzothiophenes from hydrocarbon and model diesel feeds

A process for producing an adsorbent where a metal oxide is reacted with an alkoxy silane to produce an epoxy-functionalized metal oxide. This product is reacted with an amino-substituted propionic acid and a nitro-substituted fluorenone, and this product is grafted to the epoxy-functionalized metal oxide. This grafted product is the adsorbent, which may be contacted with a hydrocarbon mixture having at least one sulfur containing compound in order to remove this sulfur containing compound. Also disclosed is a process for adding polymerization groups to an adsorbent.
