Embodiments are disclosed for transitioning views presented via a head-mounted display device. One example method for operating a head-mounted display device includes displaying a virtual model at a first position in a coordinate frame of the head-mounted display device, receiving sensor data from one or more sensors of the head-mounted display device, and determining a line of sight of the user that intersects the virtual model to identify a location the user is viewing. The example method further includes, responsive to a trigger, moving the virtual model to a second position in the coordinate frame of the head-mounted display device corresponding to the location the user is viewing and simultaneously scaling the virtual model.

Transitioning views of a virtual model

A computing system and method for producing and consuming metadata within multi-dimensional data is provided. The computing system comprising a see-through display, a sensor system, and a processor configured to: in a recording phase, generate an annotation at a location in a three dimensional environment, receive, via the sensor system, a stream of telemetry data recording movement of a first user in the three dimensional environment, receive a message to be recorded from the first user, and store, in memory as annotation data for the annotation, the stream of telemetry data and the message, and in a playback phase, display a visual indicator of the annotation at the location, receive a selection of the visual indicator by a second user, display a simulacrum superimposed onto the three dimensional environment and animated according to the telemetry data, and present the message via the animated simulacrum.

Producing and consuming metadata within multi-dimensional data

Various embodiments relating to editing holograms by extending real world interfaces are disclosed. One embodiment includes a computing device configured to communicatively couple to a head mounted display device having an at least partially see-through display. The computing device includes a non-see-through display, a user input device, and a processor configured to determine whether a user focus is on an image or a hologram, if a determination is made that the user focus is on the image, map the user input to a first coordinate space of the non-see-through display, and if a determination is made that the user focus is the on the hologram, map the user input to a second coordinate space of the head mounted display device.

Mapping input to hologram or two-dimensional display

Methods for managing content within an interactive augmented reality environment are described. An augmented reality environment may be provided to an end user of a head-mounted display device (HMD) in which content (e.g., webpages) may be displayed to the end user using one or more curved slates that are positioned on a virtual cylinder that appears body-locked to the end user. The virtual cylinder may be located around the end user with the end user positioned in the middle of the virtual cylinder such that the one or more curved slates appear to be displayed at the same distance from the end user. The position and size of each of the one or more curved slates may be controlled by the end user using head gestures and a virtual pointer projected onto the virtual cylinder.
