An assembly suitable for housing electronic components can include a top shield and a bottom shield, the bottom shield having a conductive outer cover, a wall section, and a laminating portion between the conductive outer cover and the wall section. The laminating portion may include laminating material. A printed circuit board (PCB) may be positioned between the top shield and the bottom shield.

A system can include an input signal source, a local oscillator (LO), and an intermediate frequency (IF) receiver to receive an input signal from the input signal source and an LO signal from the LO. The IF receiver can include a switch to switch between the first and second inputs to provide an output. The IF receiver can generate a calibration signal from the LO signal.

Instrument LO used as alignment signal source

An amplitude flatness and phase linearity calibration method for an RF source across a wide frequency bandwidth uses a simple square law diode detector and at least a pair of equal amplitude frequency tones. A baseband generator for the RF source generates the tones, which are applied in series to a correction filter and an up-converter to produce an output RF signal. The tones are stepped across a specified frequency bandwidth, and at each average frequency for the tones a magnitude and group delay is measured as well as a phase for the beat frequency between the tones. The resulting measurements are used to calibrate filter coefficients for the correction filter to assure amplitude flatness and phase linearity across the specified frequency bandwidth.

Amplitude flatness and phase linearity calibration for RF sources

An integrated calibrator provides for magnitude and phase response calibration of RF receivers to produce amplitude flatness and phase linearity across the frequency range of the RF receiver by using a simple square law diode detector and a frequency-stepped two-tone source. A two-tone source generator provides two sinusoidal signals separated by a specified frequency delta about a center frequency. The center frequency is stepped across the bandwidth of the RF receiver. At each center frequency the two sinusoidal signals are input to the RF receiver and to the diode detector. The two sinusoidal signals are processed by both the receiver path and the calibrator path, and the results are used by the calibrator to generate coefficients for a correction filter in the receiver path at each of the stepped center frequencies.

Magnitude and phase response calibration of receivers

A test and measurement instrument includes an input for receiving an input test signal and a separator that separates a data array of the input test signal into a number of different data bins. Each data bin includes a number of data points. A selector is included that determines whether the data points within a present bin of the total bins represent signal or noise. When the present bin contains noise, a processor generates a first output for the present bin. Instead, when the present bin contains signal, the processor generates a second output for the present bin. The bin outputs can then be combined to make an output array, such as a waveform display, for the instrument.

Signal-sensitive data compression

A test and measurement instrument including a time domain channel configured to process a first input signal for analysis in a time domain; a frequency domain channel configured to process a second input signal for analysis in a frequency domain; and an acquisition system coupled to the time domain channel and the frequency domain channel. The acquisition system is configured to acquire data from the time domain channel and the frequency domain channel. Time domain and frequency domain data can be time aligned.

Multi-domain test and measurement instrument

Embodiments of this invention provide enhanced triggering capabilities such as frequency and phase triggering in a test and measurement instrument, such as a Real-Time Spectrum Analyzer (RTSA) or oscilloscope. A test and measurement instrument can include input terminals to receive RF signals, an ADC to digitize the RF signals, a digital downconverter to produce I and Q baseband component information, and a power detector to determine a power level using the I and Q information. A comparator compares the power level received from the power detector with a user-definable power threshold, and produces a logic signal for enabling one or more phase or frequency demodulators. The one or more demodulators produce IQ-based time-domain traces derived from the I and Q component information when the power level determined by the power detector exceeds the power threshold. Trigger circuitry is configured to trigger on an event responsive to a delayed trigger enable signal.

Time-domain triggering in a test and measurement instrument

A method of correcting the frequency response of an RF receiver having a frequency translation device and a fixed IF frequency section uses calibration data representing frequency responses over a wide frequency range for multiple center frequencies. The calibration data are based upon a multi-dimensional model for the frequency translation device that includes at least center frequency and offset frequency. The calibration data are stored in the RF receiver during factory calibration. A run-time normalization of the RF receiver produces a normalization frequency response at a reference frequency, and a relative frequency response at a desired center frequency is derived from the calibration data. The normalized and relative frequency responses are combined to produce an overall frequency response that is used by the RF receiver to configure an inverse filter to correct channel linear distortion produced by the frequency response of the frequency translation device at the desired center frequency.

Frequency response correction for a receiver having a frequency translation device

A method of characterizing the frequency response of a frequency translation device over a wide IF bandwidth is based on a two-dimensional model to generate calibration data for a device at run-time. The model is a function of a center frequency and frequency offset for a plurality of center frequencies over a wide system bandwidth to produce a frequency response at each center frequency. The frequency responses at each center frequency are scaled and normalized relative to a reference frequency and stored.
