Disclosed herein are methods and apparatuses configured to direct wireless communication. In some embodiments, a networking apparatus is configured to generate a plurality of sequences of symbols for transmission to plurality of client devices; transmit the plurality of sequences to the plurality of client device via one or more beams focused toward the client devices; and transmit the first sequence of symbols and the second sequence of symbols at least partly simultaneously.

Directed wireless communication

Disclosed herein are methods and apparatuses configured to direct wireless communication. In some embodiments, a network apparatus is configured to: receive a first signal transmission from a remote station via a first antenna element of an antenna and a second signal transmission from the remote station via a second antenna element of the antenna simultaneously; determine first signal information for the first transmission; determine second signal information for the second transmission, wherein the second signal information is different than the first signal information; determine a set of weighting values based on the first signal information and the second signal information, wherein the set of weighting values is configured to construct one or more beam-formed transmission signals; and generate the one or more beam-formed transmission signals based on the set of weighting values for transmission to the remote station.

Disclosed herein are methods and apparatuses configured to direct wireless communication. In some embodiments, a networking apparatus is configured to generate a plurality of sequences of symbols for transmission to plurality of client devices; transmit the plurality of sequences to the plurality of client device via one or more beams focused toward the client devices; receive information regarding the one or more beams from the client devices; and modify at least one of the one or more beams based on the information.

In an implementation of directed wireless communication, a multi-beam directed signal system coordinates directed wireless communication with client devices. A transmit beam-forming network routes data communication transmissions to the client devices via directed communication beams that are emanated from an antenna assembly, and a receive beam-forming network receives data communication receptions from the client devices via the directed communication beams.

In an implementation of antenna assembly, an antenna element is formed with a front plate that has slots for wireless communication signal transfer, a dielectric material, a channel guide that is designed to confine the dielectric in a position that aligns the dielectric with the slots in the front plate, and a back plate. The front plate, channel guide, and back plate are attached together to enclose the dielectric within the channel guide to form an enclosed dielectric channel. An antenna assembly includes one or more of the antenna elements.

Antenna assembly

Wireless communication and beamforming is improved by depopulating one or more ports of a passive beamformer such as a Butler matrix and/or by increasing the order thereof. In an exemplary implementation, an access station includes: a Butler matrix having 'M' antenna ports and 'N' transmit and/or receive (TRX) ports; wherein at least a portion of the &#x201c;M&#x201d; antenna ports and/or at least a portion of the &#x201c;N&#x201d; TRX ports are depopulated. In another exemplary implementation, an access station includes: a Butler matrix that has multiple antenna ports and multiple TRX ports; a signal processor; and a signal selection device that is capable of coupling the signal processor to a subset of the multiple TRX ports responsive to a signal quality determination, the signal selection device adapted to switch the signal processor from a first TRX port to a second TRX port of the subset of TRX ports.
