A preforming system for automated sequential laying of plies, in particular fiber reinforced plies, at a desired location with a preselected attitude to preform a composite structure, comprising at least one buffer provided with two or more carriers, a controller, a placement robot provided with a ply manipulating part, and a substrate, wherein each carrier is arranged to carry at least one presorted ply, wherein the controller keeps track of a position, type and sequential order of the at least one presorted ply per carrier, and wherein the controller further controls the placement robot to manipulate and transport at least one ply by means of the ply manipulating part from a selected carrier of the two or more carriers to the substrate and to place the at least one ply at the desired location with the preselected attitude.

Preforming system and method

Method for manufacturing a continuous composite tube comprising translating a tube liner through a manufacturing station wherein the manufacturing station comprises a winding station and a consolidation station located at a distance downstream of the winding station; winding a composite tape on the tube liner at the winding station for forming a tape layer; consolidating the composite tape on the tube liner at a consolidation zone of the consolidation station by pressing and heating to the tape.

A method of manufacturing a composite profile having a non-circular cross section, comprising the steps of&#x2014;actuating a string of mandrel sections () having a non-circular cross section to move axially in a one way motion through one or more orbital winding stations () that are rotationally disposed about to the longitudinal axis of the mandrel in one or more passes, &#x2014;continuously helically winding in one or more winding stations tape comprising a bundle of parallel longitudinally extending fibers in a thermoplastic matrix material onto the mandrel sections or a previously wound layer to form layers () of a wall of a thin walled profile having a closed cross section including at least one planar surface, and&#x2014;cutting the thin walled profile into profile sections that are carried on one or more mandrel section sections, wherein the layer is consolidated with the previous layer prior to cutting.
