In one embodiment, an electric machine includes a rotor including a plurality of permanent magnets and rotatable about a central axis of the machine. The machine further includes a stator including a cylindrical stator shell and a plurality of stator windings positioned at the stator shell and located radially inboard of the plurality of permanent magnets. A plurality of heat sink segments are secured to a radially inboard surface of the stator shell. Each heat sink segment of the plurality of heat sink segments includes a base portion located at the radially inboard surface and a plurality of fins extending radially inwardly from the base portion.

Power supply and drive device for a permanent magnet motor including a full-wave voltage rectifier stage, which can be supplied with an alternating current voltage to provide a rectified voltage, a power factor corrector stage, a smoothing capacitor to provide a direct current voltage and a motor drive stage, which is supplied with the direct current voltage and provides a signal indicating the power required by the motor. The smoothing capacitor is not of the electrolytic type and the power factor corrector stage has feedback control means to generate a reference current as a function of the direct current voltage and of the signal indicating the power required and to control an input current of the power factor corrector stage as a function of the reference current.

Power supply and drive device for a permanent magnet electric motor

A generator for a wind turbine is provided. The generator includes a housing with a multi-piece stator arrangement mounted to the housing, the stator arrangement surrounding radially inward and radially outwardly directed faces of a rotor assembly, also surrounded by the housing. The rotor assembly is configured for direct attachment to a wind turbine main shaft so that rotation of the main shaft results in like rotation of the rotor assembly. The housing is mechanically coupled to the rotor by anti-friction elements such that the rotor is free to rotate about its central axis relative to the housing, and such that radial displacement of the rotor due to main shaft deflections results in a like radial displacement of the housing.

The knitting machine with needle selection device has a plurality of needles or sub-needles each having a body with at least one magnetized portion. A selection element faces the magnetized portion and is constituted by a plate which is physically separate from the body of the needle or sub-needle and is made of a material which can be magnetized. The selection device has a magnetizing device which acts controllably upon the selection element of the various needles or sub-needles in order to induce a magnetic interaction between the magnetized portion of the body of the needle or sub-needle and the selection element itself. Actuation cams act on the body of the needle or sub-needle, after the action of the magnetizing device, and cause a diversified actuation of the needle or sub-needle depending on the magnetic interaction induced between the portion of the body of the needle or sub-needle and the selection element.

A drive system for a household appliance incorporates an electric motor. A control panel allows the user of the appliance to select from among various performance options which the appliance is able to perform. A microprocessor, functioning as a first control unit, is responsive to the selections and to various appliance sensors monitoring operational status of the appliance to control the operation of various components within the appliance by which the selected options are performed. An AC-DC converter and inverter supply electrical power to the motor. A second control unit, operating at a relatively faster rate of speed than the microprocessor, controls the supplying of power to the electric motor to achieve proper operation thereof.

An electronically switched linear motor with high specific thrust characterized by large mechanical air gaps and by the absence of side thrust components. The motor can be completed by a built in linear sensor of the position. The generation of a high thrust is obtained through the effect of variable reluctance of two stator indented rails, whereas the side (sideway) thrust balancing is achieved thanks to a dual air gap symmetrical construction.

A drive circuit controls application of alternating current power to a load. The drive circuit includes an oscillator which applies a high frequency signal to a first input of a logic gate. A control signal is applied to a second input of the gate to enable the gate. A first capacitor is connected to the output of the logic gate. A rectifier connected to the first capacitor rectifies the signal from the first capacitor. A low-pass filter connected to the rectifier removes the high frequency components from the signal. A solid state switch has a switching input connected to the low-pass filter output, which switches the device into a conducting state. This circuit is particularly suited for use where many solid state switches share the same common terminal.
