A computer-implemented method can create a node-link model from a hierarchy table, which includes a plurality of records associated with a plurality of objects organized in segments. A record includes a unique identifier, a parent reference, and a value distribution for the associated object. The parent reference is the unique identifier of a parent object directing the value distribution to the associated object. The node-link model includes a plurality of nodes representing the objects and links connecting the nodes and representing value distributions between the objects. The method can generate a visual representation of the node-link model in a user interface and receive an input from the user interface. Responsive to the input, the method can change the visual representation to depict a portion of the node-link model based on a viewable scope of the node-link model and one or more viewable fields specified in the input.

Techniques and solutions are described for determining elements of different database tables have a semantic relationship, and optionally executing a value query using such tables. Tables, including those lacking a technical relationship (such as having a foreign key relationship or association) can be semantically related if an element of the table has the same semantic identifier, such as a domain, as an element of another table. The semantic relationship can exist even if other information, such as field names associated with a respective semantic identifier, are different between the two tables. A source table can be semantically related to one or more other tables, including indirectly based on semantic relationships between two or more of such other tables. Semantic table information can be recursively analyzed, including in a hierarchical manner, to identify a set of semantically related tables. The analysis can be constrained, such as to avoid loops or limit result size or running time.

Identification, and query, of semantically-related database tables

A data information framework collects related data sharing characteristics (e.g., personal information, others) revealed by associated purpose information, and reports on that data. The location of the data is not restricted, and can be collected from various locations (e.g. different databases on different computer systems). An engine implements data creation defining links between different stored data structures (e.g., tables) using specific fields. A plurality of tables may be grouped into a smaller number of table clusters to facilitate constructing the data model. The model may be evaluated, enhanced, and/or corrected (e.g., by a user). The model may include fields reflecting the purpose information for the stored data, said fields accessible by the engine during data handling processes. The data model may include descriptions providing data storage location. Purpose information may be mapped to table fields. Field descriptions may be based upon purpose information, with some field values having intelligible text.

Data information framework

Innovations in the areas of determining search areas and queries for database searches are presented. For example, a search tool receives input for a search area for a database search. For the database search, the search tool determines one or more target tables that fit the search area input. In this way, the search tool can determine 'on-the-fly' which database tables are relevant for the database search. The search tool can also receive input for a search string and construct queries for the database search in the target table(s). For a field of a table, the search tool can selectively convert a search value to a data format of the field. If the search string input includes multiple search values, the search tool can construct an OR query and/or an AND query. The search results can indicate real-time status of the database, while accounting for complex structures of database tables.

On-the-fly determination of search areas and queries for database searches

In an example embodiment a sender report containing multiple rows and/or columns of information drawn from a data table may be displayed to a user of a machine. A user may select a portion of the displayed information. A sender adaptor may extract report-to-report selection criteria from the selected information. A receiver adaptor may identify other data tables where information related to the report-to-report selection criteria resides. If such information resides in multiple data tables, the receiver adaptor may join the multiple data tables into one or more data tables. The receiver adaptor may convert the report-to-report selection criteria into selection criteria for the identified data table(s) or joined data table(s). The selection criteria may be passed to a generic receiver report adapted to retrieve any information from any data table(s). The generic receiver report may retrieve information according to the selection criteria and display the information to the user.

Methods and apparatus, including computer program products, are provided for group-by access of a database. In one aspect there is provided a method. The method may include receiving from a user interface information defining a database and a database table; converting the received information into at least one instruction for performing the group-by and the sum at the database table included in the database; sending the at least one instruction to the database; receiving, in response to the at least one instruction sent, a result-set from the database, the result-set representative of the group-by and the sum of the database table; and providing the result-set to an interface. Related systems and articles of manufacture are also discloses.

A system and method include receiving a request for data at a programmed computer, the request identifying a field and an operation for an embedded database, translating the request via the programmed computer into multiple requests tailored to schemas of multiple different databases, estimating a cost to execute the request against each of the multiple different databases, and identifying the database that can execute the request with the least cost.

Methods and apparatus, including computer program products, are provided for receiving an indication of a defined outer join to enable obtaining a first database table at a first database and a second database table at a second database; sending a first request to the first database to obtain the first database table; sending a second request to the second database to obtain the second database table; receiving, in response to the first and second requests, each of the first and second database tables; performing an outer join on the received first and second database tables, the outer join forming an output database table; and providing the output database table.

The method includes receiving, from an application program that has an interface, an interface description defining how to make an input into the application program using the interface. The method includes generating a screen for a user to define a step corresponding to a task to be performed in the application program by another user, the screen generated using the interface description. The method includes forwarding a step description for receipt by the application program, the step description created using a definition made under guidance of the screen, and configured consistently with the interface for the application program to create the task.

Disclosed is a method and system for retrieving a software object based on a query and customizing a metadata of the software object by adding a property, a property value, a search key and a search key value to the metadata. An index is created on the software object based on the search key value and the metadata and the software object is persisted.
