A liquid-level sensor provides a downwardly pendent float supported above the reservoir fill height using high clearance downwardly extending fingers and a spring that resist encrustation of the float support mechanism. The spring may be a flat helix to reduce the height of the sensing mechanism when so positioned. A sensor sealed within a sensor head electrically senses the float height through a sealed compartment to be contamination resistant.

Contamination resistant liquid level sensor

A liquid level sensing system provides a removable reservoir incorporating a reflective surface that can be interrogated by a stationary optical sensor in a receptacle receiving the removable reservoir. The optical sensor may detect the presence of the liquid within the reservoir without connection to the reservoir simplifying the process of making the reservoir removable while still allowing sensing of its contents. By aligning the optical axis with the insertion axis of the reservoir sensitive optical alignment problems are minimized.

A multisensor employs an optical system that is modified by the index of refraction of fluid passing between a light emitter and light detector to successfully distinguish between air and water (of any turbidity) and between water of different turbidity values. The optical system may employ lenses contacting the fluid to change their focal length and thus to focus and defocus light on the light detector depending on an index of refraction of the fluid.

An adjustable refrigerator shelf assembly receives electrical power through a loosely draped conductor held within a pocket on one side of the shelf assembly. The shelf assembly may include a detent mechanism allowing adjustment of the shelf assembly upward and downward by successive lifting and lowering of the shelf without direct manipulation of a detent or a lock allowing both the detent mechanism and conductor to be wholly covered at all times.
