The invention relates to a device () for checking a seal, in particular at least one sealing seam (), of a packaging (), the device () comprising a negative pressure chamber () configured to receive at least one packaging () and to generate a negative pressure in the negative pressure chamber (), so that a packaging () located in the negative pressure chamber () aligns due to gas located in the packaging () and expanding as a result of the negative pressure generated in the negative pressure chamber (), and an image capture device () which is designed to capture the aligned packaging () and/or the sealing seam () of the aligned packaging () in the form of optical, in particular digital, data, and a method for checking a seal.
