A mechanism for performing a communication using a visible light communication (VLC) protocol. The mechanism proposes to modulate a bus voltage provided to all lighting elements (comprising LED elements) of a lighting unit, so that the magnitude of light emitted by all lighting elements is modulated according to a same modulation scheme. A lighting system having a plurality of lighting elements is also proposed.

Performing visible light communication with a lighting unit

To improve the efficiency and reliability of communication, such as for control commands distribution and data collection, in a large and high density wireless control system (), each one of a plurality of nodes in the system is assigned one out of three roles, a router node (), a non-router node (), or a data collector node (). A node () in the wireless control system () is capable to operate according to at least one of two communication protocols. A first communication protocol is capable to support mesh or tree network with multi-hop routing, while a second communication protocol is capable to support a star network with point-to-point connection. The router nodes build up a sparse multi-hop network to guarantee the connectivity of the large-scale network. Around each router node within one-hop direct link, a local star network is built up with at least one non-router node and at least one data collector node.

Wireless control system based on a hybrid network

To improve the efficiency and reliability of communication in a large and high-density wireless network, it is beneficial to assign a subset of the plurality of nodesbeing router nodes, and the rest of the nodes being non-router nodes. Thus, the dense wireless networksplits into a sparse core mesh network and many small star networks around each router node. However, to commission the plurality of nodes into such a hybrid topology can be quite complex and time-consuming. This invention discloses a commissioning method that makes use of one or more neighboring relationship established among the plurality of nodes to derive a proper role for an individual node, and then to configure the individual node to operate according to the role assigned. The disclosed commissioning method may be carried out semi-automatically or automatically.

Efficient commissioning of a wireless control system

To commission a plurality of nodes () to a network (), a proximity-based commissioning has certain benefits. However, to get a proper proximity estimation in an area with a large number of nodes () deployed in a dense network may not be an easy task. To address this problem, nodes () to be commissioned are configured to spend most of its time on detecting beacons from a commissioning device () to derive proximity information in a one-to-many topology. And then the node () is further configured to feedback the proximity information to the commissioning device () at an adaptive beacon rate to further assist the commissioning device () to implement the proximity-based commissioning.

Proximity-based commissioning system

A networked system has a first device which sends commands to one or more other devices. If those other devices are able to follow the commands, they inhibit reporting of their status. Thus, network status data is maintained based on the commands, unless status reports indicate that the commands could not be followed or that status changes have been made which were not in response to commands from the first device.

A lighting arrangement has a lighting module with a sensor element in parallel with a light source arrangement between module terminals. A measuring system is provided for measuring, at the module terminals, a signal which is dependent on the sensor element when the light source arrangement is turned off. Thus, sensing is integrated into or connected to a lighting module, such as LED module.

The present disclosure provides a mobile device comprising: a motion sensor configured to determine a motion of the mobile device; a radiofrequency transceiver configured to receive an advertisement of at least one node; a controller configured to receive the motion of the mobile device; a user interface. The controller is configured to (i) obtain and parse the advertisement of the at least one node, when the mobile device is in a first motion, and (ii) display a list comprising the parsed advertisement of the at least one node on the user interface, when the mobile device is in a second motion. The first motion is the mobile device moving along a path and the second motion is the mobile device not moving away from a location on the path.

To improve the accuracy of a trigger-based commissioning in a high dense network without leveraging an optical link, a separate beacon tag () is employed to assist the commissioning procedure between a node () and a commissioning device (). A trigger event is detected at the node () side when its local identification number is equal to the identification number comprised in a second type of beacon received from the beacon tag (), and the proximity of the beacon tag () is determined to be below a local threshold. Upon the detection of such a trigger event, the node () updates its first type of beacons to notify the commissioning deviceabout the trigger event. And then, the commissioning device () confirms the trigger event and sends a request for commissioning to the node ().

Trigger-based commissioning system

The invention relates to detecting commissioning errors in a commissioned sensor system, wherein the sensor system comprises a plurality of sensor devices installed so as to cover an area. The sensor devices capture sensor data from the area whilst at least one entity moves through the area. A computer system of the sensor system processes the sensor data to generate a set of location data, which identifies locations traversed by the at least one moving entity. A discrepancy in the set of location data in detected, the discrepancy caused by at least one of the sensor devices having been incorrectly commissioned. Based on this detection, a modification can be made to the sensor system to compensate for or correct the incorrect commissioning of the at least one sensor device.

Commissioning of a sensor system

A system for implementing a factory reset of a luminaire. The system comprises a luminaire; and a user device, the user device being configured to transmit, to the luminaire via a first communication medium, a message for triggering onset of a factory reset time-out period of the luminaire. The user device is further configured to transmit, to the luminaire via a second, different communication medium, a command comprising a factory reset code, FRC, for triggering a factory reset of the luminaire. A control device () for controlling a lighting system () over a communication system comprising one or more networks, the lighting system comprising at least one lighting device (). The control device comprises: multiple transmitters () each for transmitting to the lighting system via a different respective interface () of the communication system; A and a controller () configured to use each of a plurality of the transmitters to transmit a respective message to the lighting system via a different respective path, each path comprising a different respective one of the interfaces and not Bluetooth RFID tag Wi-Fi ZigBee Cellular any of the others. Each of the messages invokes feedback from the lighting system to the control device if received and/or if executed by the lighting system. The controller compare the paths in dependence on the feedback, and based thereon to select which of the interfaces to use to transmit subsequent lighting control commands to the lighting system for controlling the lighting system.

Controlling a network connected lighting device

In a people counting system, a plurality of vision sensors is arranged to provide sensor coverage of an area. Each is arranged to provide individual sensor coverage of a portion of the area within its field of view. Each of a plurality of local image processors is connected to a respective one of the vision sensors. Each of the local image processors is configured to apply a local person detection algorithm to at least one image captured by its respective vision sensor, thereby generating a local presence metric representative of a number of people detected in the at least one image. A central processor is configured to estimate the total number of people in the area covered by the vision sensors by applying an aggregation algorithm to the local presence metrics generated by the local image processors. As it is critical that user privacy be taken into account when utilising such people counting technology, an opt-out is enabled. For instance, there may be users who do not want to reveal any information that may be perceived give away information related to their presence. In this context, a user is a person in the environment where people counting may be implemented. The disclosure applies not only to people counting, but to other contexts where people may be monitored, for example, a CCTV environment.

Image processing system

The invention provides a lighting system and a lighting control component for such a system. The components are battery-operated, and include a remote control signal receiver for receiving commands and configurations during commissioning. A disabling system is provided for enabling and disabling the remote control signal receiver, such that the remote control signal receiver is enabled when a commissioning process of the lighting system is expected and disabled when a commissioning process of the lighting system is not expected. This reduces the power consumption of the component after the commissioning is complete but provides ease of use during commissioning.

A luminaire () is disclosed comprising a wireless communication module () for configuring the luminaire; an optical signal detector () for detecting a directional optical signal () comprising source information included in the directional signal by a signal source () of the directional signal; and a controller () for controlling the wireless communication module. The controller is adapted to decode the source information of the coded directional optical signal to extract an identification code and a cryptographic key; to enable the wireless communication module such as to establish a wireless communication link () between the wireless communication module and the signal source if the extracted code matches a reference code; and to encrypt data sent over the wireless communication link () in accordance with said cryptographic key. A method for communicating with such a luminaire, a computer program product for implementing such a method and a mobile communications device comprising the computer program product are also disclosed.

Wireless luminaire configuration

A timing circuit (), in particular a real time clock circuit, in a lighting device () that is periodically () powered from a main power supply () in accordance with a power supply cycle having a power-on time and a power-off time, is automatically synchronized in case the power condition of an auxiliary power supply () is insufficient to assume correct operation of the timing circuit (). At each power-on of the power supply cycle, a power condition of the auxiliary power supply () is monitored. If the determined power condition exceeds a set power threshold, it is assumed that the momentary timing value of the timing circuit () is correct and this value is stored in a non-volatile memory (), If the determined power condition gives rise to assuming malfunctioning of the timing circuit (), for example due to absence of power for a longer time, the timing circuit () is synchronised to the stored timing value.
