A scanner that reads optical luminance at a field of view (FoV) includes an illuminator that provides light beams to a surface that may be located from a near field to a far field of the FoV. The illuminator can provide optical luminance that has an irradiance, which is uniform or within a certain range from the near field FoV to the far field FoV. The irradiance is achieved by adjusting the location of light emitting components and adjusting the power.

Multi-source illuminator

A time of flight sensor system having a time of flight sensor layer is disclosed. The system includes a covering window layer spaced apart from the time of flight sensor layer, with an exit window and an entrance window, an emitting element in the time of flight sensor layer that transmits an emission signal, a receiving element in the time of flight sensor layer that receives a reception signal, one or more opaque walls, and light baffles incorporated into the one or more opaque walls. The one or more opaque walls extend at least a portion of the distance from the time of flight sensor layer to the covering window layer. The one or more opaque walls reduce the reflection backscatter of emission signals and reception signals. The light baffles in the one or more opaque walls reduce backscatter of emission signals and reception signals.

A machine readable symbol reader can provide illumination form portions other than or in addition to the head of the reader, to enhance the ability to successfully read machine-readable symbols, for example symbols on curved surfaces and/or DPM symbols. A machine readable symbol reader include a first set of receiving optics in a head of the reader and a second set of receiving optics in a portion of the reader other than the head, to provide an alternative line of sight or field of view.

Machine-readable symbol reader with distributed illumination and/or image capture

In a handheld scanning device, a support frame configured to physically support an indicia scanning engine configured to scan and interpret an indicia and a light pipe within a casing of a scanning device. The light pipe extends along and flush against a surface of a planar portion of the support frame. Multiple ribs of elongate shape are formed integrally with the planar portion. A plurality of the ribs of the multiple ribs each define a gap in the elongate shape through which the light pipe may extend. The support frame may support the indicia scanning engine and the light pipe in predetermined relative positions to cause a central projection axis along which light is projected from an outlet end of the light pipe to extend in parallel with a central scanning axis extending from a front end of the indicia scanning engine, and toward a surface that carries the indicia.

Optical assembly for scanning engine

An apparatus and method for reading optical information and that includes an interface with reduced visual fatigue. In an embodiment, the apparatus may include an acquisition means for acquiring the optical information. The apparatus may further include a body with a frontal face to be disposed between a minimum and maximum work distance, an illuminating means for emitting an illuminating pattern, an aiming means for emitting an aiming pattern, an indicating means for emitting a reading apparatus outcome pattern. The illuminating means, aiming means, and indicating means including respective non-coherent light sources, and each are configurable by operating parameters that include wavelengths of each of the light sources are selectable. The wavelength of the aiming means may range from 430 to 470 nm, illuminating means may range from 590 to 650 nm, and indicating means may range from 530 to 560 nm.
