A communication system () is provided that comprises a Radio Access Network () having a Radio Network Controller (RNC) () coupled to each of a cellular Node B () and a Digital Broadcasting Video-Handhelds (DVB-H) Node B (). When the communication system delivers low rate Multimedia Broadcast/Multicast Service (MBMS) user information, the user information is conveyed via the cellular Node B and a low data rate channel. When the communication system delivers high rate MBMS user information, the user information is conveyed via the DVB-H Node B and a high data rate channel. Thus the communication system provides high rate MBMS data services without imposing the system capacity constraints resulting from the employment of HSDPA by a cellular Node B.

Method and apparatus for delivery of high rate data as part of a multimedia broadcast/multicast service

A communication system comprises network elements () and user equipments (), at least some of which comprise a charging proxy (). The system further comprises a charging server () which includes a topic controller () for initializing charging topics where each charging topic is associable with charging data. The charging server () furthermore comprises functionality for registering proxies as subscribing proxies or publishing proxies (or both) for the different charging topics. A receiver () receives charging data messages from charging proxies and validates a first set of charging data belonging to a first charging topic in response to a first set of charging proxies registered as publishing proxies for the first charging topic. A charging data transmitter () transmits the first set of charging data to a second set of charging proxies registered as subscribing proxies for the first charging topic.

Charging system for a communication system

The invention provides for secure end-to-end user authentication by a remote server communicating with a communication device. The communication device further communicates with an authentication device, which provides a user authentication message to the communication device for forwarding to the remote server. The authentication device comprises a data store for storing user authentication credentials. A user authentication processor performs a local authentication of a user of the authentication device in response to a user input. An authentication processor generates the authentication message if the user authentication is valid. The authentication processor implements a cryptographic function based on the user authentication credentials. A transmitter then transmits the authentication message to the at least one communication device.
