A method for managing data packets transmitted by a first user equipment to be received by a second user equipment through a radio network includes having the radio network comprising a radio transceiver station receive data packets transmitted by the first user equipment. For each data packet received, checking whether the data packet comprises a request for a data packet tunneling. For each data packet comprising a request for data packet tunneling, providing the data packet to a relay protocol entity at a Radio Link Control protocol layer. The relay protocol entity is configured for generating at least one tunneling data packet, said generating at least one tunneling data packet comprises inserting at least a portion of the transmitted data packet into the at least one tunneling data packet and transmitting the tunneling data packet to the second user equipment.

Method and system for data tunneling in device to device communication assisted by a telecommunication network

A method for managing a full duplex mobile telecommunication network, includes measuring power of uplink and down link transmission from adjacent base stations and a user equipment, respectively. The method also includes comparing the measured powers of the uplink and downlink transmission, and if the power of the uplink transmission is lower than the power of the downlink transmission, the base station allocates dedicated uplink resources to the uplink transmission. The dedicated uplink resources are radio resources reserved only for uplink transmissions and are not usable for downlink transmissions. The dedicated uplink resources are assigned to the user equipment.

Mobile telecommunication network architecture for mitigating uplink interference

A method of downloading a multimedia content from a content server to a client through a wireless communication network is provided. The multimedia content is subdivided into a plurality of chunks and for each chunk the content server has at least two corresponding versions thereof encoded with different encoding rates. The method includes having the client send a first request of a first version of a corresponding requested chunk, and having a proxy server intercept the first request to generate a second request of a second version of the requested chunk. The method also includes having the proxy server send the second request to the content server in place of the first request, and having the content server send the second version to the client. The second request is generated based on the amount of information content of the versions of said requested chunk.

Method and system for providing variable quality streaming video services in mobile communication networks

A method of downloading video contents from a content server to a client through a base station of a wireless communication network is provided. Each video content includes a sequence of encoded video frames. The method includes having the content server send a video content in a sequence of data packets, each data packet including data corresponding to at least one portion of an encoded video frame, and having a proxy server at the base station classify each data packet according to the type of video frame it correspond to. The method also includes having a scheduler at the base station assign radio resources for the transmission of the data packets to the client based on the classification carried out by the proxy server, and transmitting the data packets to the client by exploiting the radio resource assignment carried out by the scheduler.

Method and system for scheduling resources for streaming video services in mobile communication networks

A method for managing a full duplex mobile telecommunication network includes providing a coordination unit of a set of base stations, and having the coordination unit group a plurality of user equipment served by said base stations to form corresponding user groups. Each user group includes a group of user equipment which are close to each other by an extent such to cause potential user equipment to user equipment interference. The method also includes having the coordination unit allocate radio resources for at least one between transmissions from user equipment to base stations, and transmissions from base stations to user equipment. The method further includes having each base station carrying out at least receiving transmissions from at least one served user equipment, and sending transmissions to at least one served user equipment by exploiting the allocated radio resources.

Method and system for managing UE-to-UE interference in a mobile telecommunication network

A mobile network includes a base station having a central unit and a remote unit. The remote unit includes data buffers, each one associated with a respective user equipment for temporarily storing data to be transmitted thereto. For each selected user equipment, a method includes determining a status of the data buffer associated with the selected user equipment, and determining an average data traffic that the selected user equipment is able to receive. According to the status of the remote unit data buffer and to the average data traffic, a data throughput is determined with which the central unit can transmit the data for the selected user equipment to the data buffer associated with the selected user equipment. The method also causes the central unit to transmit the data for the selected user equipment to the data buffer associated thereto according to the determined data throughput.

Fronthaul congestion control in a mobile communication network

A first user equipment can communicate with a second user equipment in a direct mode or in an infrastructure mode via a base station of a network. To communicate with the second user equipment, the first user equipment generates packets and forwards the packets to a lower protocol layer of a protocol stack. The first user equipment also acts as a buffer protocol entity by storing the packets until acknowledgement of receipt is received from the second user equipment. If the first user equipment switches from the direct mode to the infrastructure mode, or vice versa, the first user equipment forwards each of the stored packets to the lower protocol layer for transmission to the second user equipment using the current mode.

Method and system for loss mitigation during device to device communication mode switching

A method for allocating resource blocks on a cellular network including transceiver stations to provide cell coverage for allowing user equipment within the cell to exchange data via uplink or downlink. The method includes, at a cell, reiterating operations at each or a group of transmission time intervals. The operations include listing user equipment requiring resource blocks in a priority list; b) for the user equipment listed in the priority list, executing operations b1) and b2) or b1) and b3): b1) selecting a set of resource blocks including at least one resource block; b2) if the selected set of resource blocks has not been assigned to other user equipment, assigning to the user equipment the selected set of resource blocks; b3) if the selected set of resource blocks has been assigned to other user equipment, replacing the user equipment from the priority list with user equipment in a collision list.

Scheduling method and system

An iterative receiver receives a signal including useful and interfering signal components, and detects information carried thereon. The receiver includes at least one estimating unit receiving the signal and providing an estimate of each signal component, and at least two decoding and regenerating units, at each iteration, each decoding and regenerating unit decoding a respective one among the estimates and for regenerating the respective decoded estimate into a respective regenerated estimate. At each receiver iteration, the at least one estimating unit provides estimates based on regenerated estimates provided at a previous iteration. The receiver further includes a control unit determines activation or deactivation of each decoding and regenerating unit at each process step of a detection process dedicated to detection of the signal, and determines, for each process step, a respective number of allowed iterations for each decoding and regenerating unit whose activation has been determined for that process step.

Receiver for wireless communication networks

A method for managing a cellular network. The cellular network includes a plurality of base stations each one configured to exchange data with user equipment located in a corresponding cell by exploiting a downlink data channel and an uplink data channel according to a frequency division duplexing scheme. The method includes: having a first base station exchanging coordination information with a second base station, the coordination information being related to at least one among channel state condition and resources allocation to user equipment, the having the first base station exchanging coordination information with the second base station including: transmitting the coordination information from the first base station to the second base station exploiting a portion of the downlink data channel.

A method for transmitting broadcast network information in a mobile wireless communication network includes a plurality of network nodes. The method includes providing a compression of broadcast network information related to a group of coordinated network nodes of the plurality of network nodes; coding the compressed broadcast network information by segmenting the compressed broadcast network information into a number of blocks and linearly combining the blocks into a plurality of linear combinations of blocks; and transmitting the linear combinations of blocks by the group of coordinated network nodes.

Network information transmission in a mobile communication network

A method of downloading multimedia content from a server to a client through a wireless communication network is proposed. The multimedia content is subdivided into a plurality of portions and for each portion the server stores a plurality of versions thereof each of which is encoded with a specific encoding quality. The method comprises: selecting, among the plurality of versions of each portion of the multimedia content, a version of the portion of the multimedia content to be downloaded on the basis of wireless communication parameters determined at at least two different layers of a wireless communication network OSI protocol stack at the client.

Method and system for dynamic rate adaptation of a stream of multimedia contents in a wireless communication network

A method for allocating communication resources for communications performed by user equipment in a mobile communication network comprises receiving a first indication about an amount of available communication resources and obtaining information about interfering communications between user equipment. The method further comprises, for each communication between user equipment to which communication resources have to be allocated, receiving a second indication about an available communication rate for an infrastructure-based communication and for a device-to-device communication, receiving a third indication about a requested communication rate for said each communication, making a selection between an infrastructure-based communication type or a device-to-device communication type based on the first, second and third indications and the information about interfering communications, and allocating communication resources to each communication on the basis of the selection between an infrastructure-based communication type or a device-to-device communication type.

Resource allocation system and method adapted to implement device-to-device communications in wireless communication networks

A method of operating a mobile communication network including plural radio transceiver stations serving and managing communications between mobile communication devices. The method includes: a first radio transceiver station commanding, to a first mobile communication device, transmission of a probe signal; the first radio transceiver station providing to a second mobile communication device parameters useful to the second mobile communication device for receiving the probe signal; the first radio transceiver station performing a first measuring the probe signal; the first radio transceiver station receiving a second measure of the probe signal, performed by the second mobile communication device; the first radio transceiver station comparing the first and second measures; the first radio transceiver station commanding a switch of the communication of the first mobile communication device towards the second mobile communication device to a direct device-to-device communication based on a result of the comparing.

Device-to-device communication management in mobile communication networks

A method for uplink allocation of radio resources in a cellular network including a network node and, associated therewith, at least one user equipment supporting data reception from a global navigation satellite system. The method includes, for each of the at least one user equipment: if uplink data transmission from the user equipment to the network node is based on aggregation of carriers and if data reception from the global navigation satellite system is enabled, determining a reception time interval, with respect to a framing system of the cellular network, during which data reception from the global navigation satellite system takes place, the determining based on timing information concerning data reception by the user equipment from the global navigation satellite system; if uplink data transmission potentially takes place at least partially within the reception time interval, limiting allocation of radio resources for the uplink data transmission from the user equipment.
