A system and method for assisting a user in navigation of an image dataset are disclosed. The method includes receiving a user's text query, retrieving images responsive to the query from an image dataset, providing for receiving the user's selection of a first feature selected from a set of available first features via a graphical user interface, providing for receiving the user's selection of a second feature selected from a set of available second features different from the first features via the graphical user interface, and displaying at least some of the retrieved images on the graphical user interface. The displayed images are arranged, e.g., grouped, according to levels and/or combinations of levels of the user-selected first and second features.

System for creative image navigation and exploration

A system and method for categorizing color palettes are provided. A taxonomy for a particular type of achromatic entity, such as emotions, is generated and populated with a list of terms. Natural language terms extracted from annotated color palettes are associated with the corresponding achromatic entity categories in the taxonomy. Features are extracted from the color palettes. The features, together with the category information, are used to train a classifier which is then able to assign achromatic entities to palettes outside the training set, based on extracted features.

System and method for classification and selection of color palettes

Image contrast enhancement includes (i) computing a contrast measure incorporating an adjustable tone transformation function and one or more statistical measures of selected spatial arrangements of pixel or voxel intensities in an analysis image or image portion, (ii) adjusting the adjustable tone transformation function to increase contrast as indicated by the contrast measure, and (iii) enhancing contrast of a target image or image portion using the adjusted tone transformation function.

A method for controlling a printer in a networked environment utilizes printer usage statistics and document features to determine whether to print a document or portion of a document. The networked environment includes printers, devices permitting the submittal of print job requests, a print server, and a document repository. The method includes receiving a job request to print a document from a device on the network and obtaining the document in digital form from the document repository or placing the document in digital form. Document and page specific information are extracted from the document. It is then determined whether printing of the document or a portion of the document is necessary based on analysis of the document and page specific information.

Method and system for controlling printer utilization in a networked environment

A method is provided for selecting fields of an electronic form for automatic population with candidate text segments. The candidate text segments can be obtained by capturing an image of a document, applying optical character recognition to the captured image to identify textual content, and tagging candidate text segments in the textual content for fields of the form. The method includes, for each of a plurality of fields of the form, computing a field exclusion function based on at least one parameter selected from a text length parameter, an optical character recognition error rate, a tagging error rate, and a field relevance parameter; and determining whether to select the field for automatic population based on the computed field exclusion function.

Decision criteria for automated form population

In a system for updating a contacts database (), a portable imager () acquires a digital business card image (). An image segmenter () extracts text image segments from the digital business card image. An optical character recognizer (OCR) () generates one or more textual content candidates for each text image segment. A scoring processor () scores each textual content candidate based on results of database queries respective to the textual content candidates. A content selector () selects a textual content candidate for each text image segment based at least on the assigned scores. An interface () is configured to update the contacts list based on the selected textual content candidates.

Personal information retrieval using knowledge bases for optical character recognition correction

An image processing method takes as its input, a patch of an image where a candidate red-eye has been detected. The method includes classifying the patch with a classifier trained to assign the patch either to a default first class of patches associated with a standard correction of the candidate red-eye or to at least one second class of patches associated with a modified correction of the candidate red-eye. The modified correction may be designed to reduce a risk of degradation of the image for the second class of patches. The classification optionally includes determining a confidence level associated with the classification. If the image is classified into the at least one second class and the confidence level, where determined, exceeds a threshold, the modified correction is applied to the patch, otherwise, the standard correction is applied.

Adaptive red eye correction

An image is classified respective to JPEG compression history. An image signature is derived from the image. The image signature is indicative of spatial frequencies content of chrominance components of the image including spatial frequencies content associated with JPEG compression. The image is classified respective to whether the image has undergone JPEG compression based on analysis of the image signature.

JPEG detectors and JPEG image history estimators

A method of automatic mapping of image data includes representing image data for an image as luminance values, determining a key value as a function of an average luminance value of the image and of minimum and maximum luminance values of the image, generating offset-adjusted luminance values including applying an offset to each of the luminance values, the offset being a function of the determined key value, and computing a tone reproduction curve for at least a region of the image which includes applying a mapping function to the offset-adjusted luminance values.
