A device (e.g., an article of athletic gear) comprising a post-molded expandable component, which is a part of the device that is configured to be expanded or has been expanded after being molded. This may allow the post-molded expandable component to have enhanced characteristics (e.g., be more shock-absorbent, lighter, etc.), to be cost-effectively manufactured (e.g., by using less material and/or making it in various sizes), and/or to be customized for a user (e.g., by custom-fitting it to the user).

A leg pad (e.g., a hockey leg pad) for protecting a leg of a user, in which the leg pad is designed to enhance protection and freedom of movement (e.g., during skating strides), such as by providing flexibility of the leg pad proximate to a knee and optionally an ankle of the user (e.g., for extension and optional retraction of one or more parts of the leg pad) to better follow natural movements of the user's leg (e.g., bending of the knee and optional flexion of the ankle of the user).

Leg pad

The invention relates to a leg pad for a hockey player. The leg pad extends along a longitudinal axis and comprises an upper portion, a bottom portion and a band. The upper portion has a knee cap for covering a knee joint of the player. The bottom portion has an upper shell for covering a substantial part of a shin of the hockey player and a lower shell for at least partially covering the shin and ankle of the hockey player. The band extends along part of a periphery of the upper shell and part of a periphery of the lower shell. The band interconnects the upper shell and the lower shell to one another wherein the lower shell is movable relative to the upper shell between a first position and a second position in response to flexion of the ankle.

Leg pad for a hockey player

A hockey or lacrosse glove comprising a cuff and a hand receiving portion having a palm sheet, a dorsal sheet extending longitudinally from a proximal end located adjacent the distal end of the cuff to a distal end that is, in use, located generally above the proximal articulation of each finger, and four finger gussets, each finger gusset having a distal end for covering the distal end of the finger. The glove also has at least one protector extending to an end located generally above the distal end of the finger gusset and comprising a single pocket and a padding element contained in the single pocket, the padding element defining at least one flexion zone such that, in use, flexing of the player's hand or finger imparts movement of the padding element.

Glove for a hockey or lacrosse player

A hockey or lacrosse glove comprising a dorsal sheet extending longitudinally from a proximal end proximate the distal end of the cuff to a distal end proximate the proximal end of each finger gusset and extending transversally from a medial end to a lateral end, the dorsal sheet having a maximal length measured between its proximal and distal ends and a maximal width measured between its medial and lateral ends; and a dorsal protector covering the dorsal sheet. The dorsal protector comprises a single pocket mounted to the dorsal sheet and occupying at least three-quarters of the maximal length of the dorsal sheet and at least three-quarters of the maximal width of the dorsal sheet and a padding element contained in the single pocket, the padding element comprising a flexion zone.

A protective athletic garment comprising a protective cap for protecting a body part of the user. The protective cap comprises a shell for overlying the user's body part. The shell comprises a first shell member and a second shell member. The protective cap comprises a liner mounted under the shell for being disposed between the shell and the user's body part. The protective cap also comprises a link interconnecting the first shell member and the second shell member to hold the first shell member and the second shell member together. The link extends along at least part of a periphery of the first shell member and at least part of a periphery of the second shell member such that the first shell member and the second shell member are movable relative to one another in response to movement of the user's body part.

Protective athletic garment

A method of making an outer shell, the method comprising: (a) providing first and second sheets, each of the first and second sheets being made of a layer of high-density polyethylene, polypropylene, polyurethane or polycarbonate extruded with a layer of non-woven fabric; (b) providing a third sheet made of high-density polyethylene foam, polypropylene foam, polyurethane foam or polystyrene foam, the third sheet having top and bottom sides; (c) affixing a first layer of adhesive film on the top side of the third sheet; (d) affixing a second layer of adhesive film on the bottom side of the third sheet; (e) placing the third sheet between the first and second sheets such that the first layer of adhesive film of the third sheet contacts the layer of non-woven fabric of the first sheet and the second layer of adhesive film of the third sheet contacts the layer of non-woven fabric of the second sheet; (f) stitching together the first, second and third sheets in order to form a composite sheet; and (g) thermoforming the composite sheet for forming the outer shell wherein the outer shell has a shape suitable for a hockey or lacrosse leg pad, shoulder pads or elbow pad.
