Machine learning, artificial intelligence, and other computer-implemented methods are used to identify various semantically important chunks in documents, automatically label them with appropriate datatypes and semantic roles, and use this enhanced information to assist authors and to support downstream processes. Chunk locations, datatypes, and semantic roles can often be automatically determined from what is here called 'context', to wit, the combination of their formatting, structure, and content; those of adjacent or nearby content; overall patterns of occurrence in a document, and similarities of all these things across documents (mainly but not exclusively among documents in the same document set). Similarity is not limited to exact or fuzzy string or property comparisons, but may include similarity of natural language grammatical structure, ML (machine learning) techniques such as measuring similarity of word, chunk, and other embeddings, and the datatypes and semantic roles of previously-identified chunks.

A method and apparatus for protecting regions of an electronic document are provided. According to the method, the entire electronic document is protected. The selection of a region within the electronic document is received along with identity of one or more users authorized to freely edit the selected region. The identified users are authorized to freely edit only the selected region of the electronic document. A request is then received to edit a region of the electronic document from a current user. In response to the request, a determination is made as to whether the current user is authorized to edit the region. If the user is not authorized to edit the region, the request is denied.

The collaboration website allows collaborations on the attached documents by the recipients of the message. An extensible markup language ('XML') schema is provided for defining a content region which displays specific types of content in an electronic document created in a word processing application program. The schema includes structural elements for defining the content region in the electronic document. The structural elements include a properties element for defining properties associated with the content to be displayed in the content region and a content element for receiving the content to be displayed according to the defined properties. The properties element and the content element define the content region in the electronic document.

A server exposes debugger services to a plurality of debugger clients. One or more debugger clients can select a debug operation and establish a debug session in a thread of a server process for debugging user code. A two-way debug communication pipeline can be established between a debugger client and the server using standard encoding protocols and standard network transport protocols. A two-way debug communication pipeline can be established using HTTP where the server can initiate a communication with the debugger client using a long polling technique. When one of the threads of the server process is suspended, the other threads in the server process continue to execute.

A method and computer-readable medium are provided for interacting with a portion of an electronic document. According to the method, a UI control is displayed that includes a border surrounding the portion of the electronic document and one or more UI items that allow actions to be performed on the portion of the electronic document. The UI control may be displayed continually or displayed when user input is received within the portion of the electronic document. The border of the UI control may form a bounded region that is displayed transparently over the display of the portion of the electronic document. The transparency of the bounded region may be increased gradually when user input is received in the portion of the electronic document and removed gradually when user input is subsequently received outside the portion. A selectable region may be provided within the UI control for selecting and moving the portion of the electronic document to another location within the document.

Method and computer-readable medium for interacting with a portion of an electronic document

A word processor including a native XML file format is provided. The well formed XML file fully represents the word-processor document, and fully supports 100% of word-processor's rich formatting. There are no feature losses when saving the word-processor documents as XML. A published XSD file defines all the rules behind the word-processor's XML file format. Hints may be provided within the XML associated files providing applications that understand XML a shortcut to understanding some of the features provided by the word-processor. The word-processing document is stored in a single XML file. Additionally, manipulation of word-processing documents may be done on computing devices that do not include the word-processor itself.
