These vibrating elements may be secured to the upper body of an individual via one or more respective securing mechanisms, where the securing mechanisms are configured to position the one or more vibrating elements in a direction lateral to the individual, and the position, tension, and efficacy of these vibrating elements may be monitored and/or regulated by one or more accelerometers.

Devices and methods to measure gastric residual volume (GRV) are described where at least one additive component (a GRV indicator) may be dispersed in a body lumen such as a stomach. The GRV indicator may changes a physical (chemical, electrical, thermal, mechanical, optical, etc.) characteristic within the stomach by a measureable degree. This degree of change and/or the rate of return to the previous state, may be used to determine the GRV of a patient. The determined GRV can also be used to automatically or semi-automatically control the patient's feeding rate and/or volume and/or frequency to adequately nourish the patient but avoid complications. The physical characteristic(s) may also be used to detect that the feeding catheter or tube is in the correct location (ie stomach vs lung or esophagus.

A device for draining bodily fluids is described herein which generally may comprise an elongate body defining one or more lumens configured to receive a bodily fluid from a cavity, e.g., bladder, of a patient body. The one or more lumens are in fluid communication with a reservoir which may receive the bodily fluid. A pumping mechanism may be used to urge the bodily fluid through the one or more lumens, where the pumping mechanism is configured to maintain an open space within the one or more lumens such that outflow of the bodily fluid through the one or more lumens remains unobstructed such that a negative pressure buildup in the cavity is inhibited. The device may also include a vent or valve mechanism in communication with the elongate body to allow air to enter or exit the one or more lumens.

The housing may be anchored at a subcutaneous site proximate the peritoneal space. The sensed analyte concentration may then be transduced into a transmittable electrical signal.
