Methods, apparatus, systems and articles of manufacture are disclosed to illustrate a clearance design process and strategy with CCA-ACC optimization for exhaust gas temperature (EGT) and performance improvement. In some examples, an apparatus includes a case surrounding at least part of a turbine engine, the at least part of the turbine engine including a turbine or a compressor. The apparatus further includes a first source to obtain external air; a second source to obtain cooled cooling air; a heat exchanger to control temperature of cooled cooling air; and a case cooler to provide active clearance control air to the case to control deflection of the case, wherein the active clearance control air is a combination of the external air and the cooled cooling air, the case cooler coupled to the heat exchanger using a first valve, the first valve triggered by a first control signal.

Clearance design process and strategy with CCA-ACC optimization for EGT and performance improvement

The turbomachine includes a rotatable member defining an axis of rotation and an inner annular casing extending circumferentially over at least a portion of the rotatable member. The inner annular casing includes a radially outer surface. The turbomachine further includes an outer annular casing extending over at least a portion of the inner annular casing. The inner annular casing and the outer annular casing define a plurality of cavities therebetween. The clearance control system includes a manifold system including a plurality of conduits extending circumferentially about the inner annular casing and disposed within the cavities. The clearance control system also includes an impingement system extending circumferentially about the inner annular casing and disposed within the cavities. The conduits are configured to channel a flow of cooling fluid to the impingement system which is configured to channel the cooling fluid to the radially outer surface of the inner annular casing.

Method and apparatus for active clearance control for high pressure compressors using fan/booster exhaust air

A sifting pick-up device is provided that operates as a combined pick-up tool and sifter. The device comprises an elongated frame, a first jaw member, and a second jaw member. The elongated frame includes a proximal end, a distal end, and a slidable handle therealong. The two jaw members are disposed along the distal end and move relative to one another based on movement of the slidable handle. At least one of the jaw members has a sifting screen jaw surface in which contents secured between the jaws can be separated from granular material. One or both of the jaw members are movable, and in one embodiment the slidable handle is spring biased and is connected to at least one jaw member via one or more cables. The handle controls the position of the jaws, which can be used to pick-up items and sift the same.

A method for reducing tip rub loads in a rotor blade is described having the steps of selecting a location of contact between the rotor blade and a static structure; selecting a location on the blade for incorporating a tip-cutter; selecting a cutter-profile for the tip-cutter; and incorporating the tip-cutter on the selected location on the blade such that tip-cutter is capable of removing a portion of the static structure during a tip rub such that tip rub loads are facilitated to be reduced.

Method for reducing tip rub loading

An airfoil for use in a rotor assembly is disclosed, the airfoil having a tip-cutter located on a sidewall near a tip portion, wherein the tip-cutter is capable of removing a portion of an abradable material during a tip rub. In another embodiment, an airfoil has a tip-grinder located on the tip portion, wherein the tip-grinder capable of removing a portion of an abradable material during a tip rub. In another embodiment, an airfoil has a tip-rake that facilitates reducing loading induced to said airfoil during tip rubs.
