Systems and methods for displaying a teleconference session are described. Teleconference data including display streams is transmitted to a number of client computers. Each of the streams may include at least a video and an audio component. A user interface includes a first display area rendering a first stream and a second display area rendering a second stream. An event may occur that removes a video component from the first stream. In response to the event, the rendering of the first stream may be removed from the first display area, and one or more streams of the plurality of streams may be displayed in at least a portion of the first display area. Such techniques for modifying user interface displays based on the actions of select users that have transitioned to an audio-only mode can optimize the use of a display area.

Event conditioned views for communication sessions

A single communication application can display an initial modality view associated with the group communication on a canvas of a communication application user interface. The initial modality view can be one of multiple available views. The single communication application can receive a selection to display a different from the initial modality view. Each active user in the group communication can be on a different computing device with different active instances of the single communication application which are each configured to switch independently of each other active instances of the single communication application running on different computing devices to modality views that are different from the initial modality view. The communication application can display the selected modality view on the canvas by transitioning from the initial modality view.

Managing modality views on conversation canvas

Event conditioned views for teleconferencing sessions

A communication application displays a modality view that may be one of a collaboration, a gallery, or a messaging view on a conversation canvas. The application may display an initial view according a modality selection by the user. A user is enabled to select a next view from the set by providing a user action such as a tap, swipe action, etc. The application dynamically generates the next modality view according to the initial view. Common participants and common contexts are used to configure the next view. Subsequent to configuration, the application displays the next modality view on the conversation canvas by transitioning from the initial view. The application retains session information from the initial view to restore the initial view session if the user selects to return to the initial view.

Techniques for restoring communications sessions for applications having conversation environment and a meeting embodiment are described. A system may include a meeting component of a communications application for selecting a meeting from multiple meetings, a conversation component of the communications application for managing multiple conversation threads, and a recovery component of the communications application for recovering an active meeting from the multiple meetings or an active conversation thread from the multiple conversation threads. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Techniques to restore communications sessions for applications having conversation and meeting environments

A universal phone number is provided for connecting to communication methods, including fixed line, mobile line, and internet communication methods. A communication group of communication methods may include multiple communication methods belonging to one individual or to multiple individuals within the communication group, such as a family. The universal phone number may be designated as the primary contact number for the communication group such incoming phone calls and text messages may be automatically routed to the communication methods in the communication group. The universal phone number may provide alerts to the multiple communication methods for notifying when incoming phone calls are answered. A universal voicemail box may also be provided for a scenario when the incoming call is not answered. Additionally, the universal phone number may provide the ability to keep the contact information for each of the individual communication methods private.

Universal phone number for contacting group members

Static user information such as address, title, phone number(s), email address(es) and dynamic user information such as location, calendar, current phone number(s), etc. are combined in a dynamically updateable subscriber contact card for publishing to other applications. The subscriber contact card also includes user defined access controls for restricting access to portions of the information by select users. Other applications provide services such as communication services based on up-to-date information through the subscriber contact card.
