A system and related techniques monitor the operation of networked computer services, such as Internet-based search or other services which may link to a set of server resources, supporting databases and other components. In current technology if a large-scale or other search service encounters a problem in one supporting platform, the overall response may be interrupted or hang. In embodiments for example a search engine which attempts to access a travel, shopping, news or other database or service in response to a user search request may suspend the delivery of the search results, or blank the page with a 404 or other error message, due to the. unavailability of one or two databases or other components. The service support platform of the invention on the other hand may monitor the computer services network and detect the occurrence of a failure or performance lag, and temporarily detach the faulted server or other resource from the larger network service. In embodiments a user's Web page may be adapted to omit a panel of information related to that suspended service or component, so that for example an icon for a travel map or hotel reservation tool may be grayed out or removed while still presenting the remainder of the services or options. Users may therefore still access the majority of the Web service they are attempting to use, without interruption or noticeable lag.

System and method for automatic recovery from fault conditions in networked computer services

A system for presenting web content that allows the user to select and change the view of the content. A page of content, which is viewable on a web browser, contains a user-operable element, such as a pull-down menu, that allow the user to select a view for that content. The page is generated in a default view, by using a content-generation program that receives parameters from a first configuration file. The page includes a user-operable element such as a pull-down menu that allows the user to select a different view for the content. The user's selection is transmitted to the content provider. The content provider then re-runs the content-generation program using a second configuration file that corresponds to the selected view. The second configuration file contains different parameters from the first configuration file. The re-generated content is then re-delivered to the user's computer for display on the web browser.

Technique for changing views of web content

A system and methods to incorporate, distribute, and execute associated links in online content is provided. The invention contemplates client side processing of online content received from one or more cooperating content servers to incorporate associated links by a client side computing application for display to participating users. The associated links when interacted offer one or more actions including but not limited to offering additional relevant content, executing cooperating applications, and performing searches. The processing of the online content is accomplished by parsing the content and comparing the content with a predefined list of associated links. If a match occurs, the associated link is incorporated for use. The invention further contemplates the automated update of the predefined list of associated links.

Smart links

An architecture for presenting web content that modularizes the various components of that content. A 'wire frame' defines spatial regions of a page of content. The regions are called 'slots.' A &#x201c;view&#x201d; defines a mapping or binding between the slots in a wire frame, and objects that generate content. A rendering engine fills the slots with content based on the objects bound to the slots. Slots can be bound to controls, eXtensible Style Language (XSL) tags, or other views. Controls are executable or interpretable code that generate content to fill a slot. An XSL processor can also generate such content based on an XSL tag. Additionally, views can be used recursively so that the content of a slot can be generated by another view. Controls can receive parameters from a configuration file, so that a given control can produce different variations of a given underlying piece of content.
