A method for controlling vehicle energy consumption includes identifying, using a cumulative net energy consumption of a vehicle traversing a route, one or more route segments of the route being traversed by the vehicle. The method also includes determining, for each route segment of the one or more route segments, a vehicle energy consumption profile and determining, for each of the one or more route segments, a profile for a target vehicle speed based on at least one route characteristic and a corresponding vehicle energy consumption profile. The method also includes, for a respective route segment of the one or more route segments generating one or more torque commands based on at least the target vehicle speed profile corresponding to the respective route segment, and selectively controlling, using the one or more torque commands, vehicle propulsion of the vehicle to achieve the target vehicle speed profile.

System and method for controlling vehicle energy consumption using segmented route optimization

The use of multiple horizon optimization for vehicle dynamics and powertrain control of a vehicle is provided. Long horizon optimization for a trip of the vehicle is performed, and an optimal value function is determined. Data is received from powertrain and/or connectivity features from one or more of components of the vehicle. Short horizon optimization for the trip is performed using a rollout algorithm, the optimal value function, and the received data. The operation of the vehicle is adjusted using results of the short horizon optimization.

Systems and methods for vehicle dynamics and powertrain control using multiple horizon optimization

Presented are model predictive control (MPC) systems, methods, and devices for regulating operation of hybrid powertrains. A method of controlling a hybrid powertrain includes a controller determining path plan data, including a vehicle origin, destination, and predicted path. Based on this path plan data, the controller estimates vehicle velocities for multiple rolling road segments of the predicted path and, based on the estimated velocities, determines an estimated power request&#x2014;transmission input torque and/or vehicle axle torque&#x2014;for each road segment. The controller calculates a minimum cost function such that total fuel consumption to generate the engine power output is minimized. Minimizing the cost function is subject to battery pack current limits and state of charge (SOC) terminal costs at the ends of the rolling road segments. Command signals are sent to the engine and motor to output engine and motor torque based on the calculated minimum cost function.

AI-enhanced nonlinear model predictive control of power split and thermal management of vehicle powertrains

A method of compressing gas includes maintaining a volume of gas at a first pressure within a first chamber. Pressurized liquid is forced into the first chamber through a nozzle having a curved profile. Based on the Coanda effect, the liquid compresses the volume of gas to a second pressure greater than the first pressure. The liquid is separated from the gas in a second chamber while maintaining the gas at the second pressure to provide compressed, dry gas.

Method and system for compressing gas using a liquid

A method and at least two devices demonstrate improvements to energy extraction from a compressible working fluid in a liquid ring heat engine, which has a rotor mounted in a case. A space in the case is occupied by a liquid that establishes a liquid ring piston for the rotor. The rotor defines at least a first and a second operating zone. In the first zone, the working fluid is expanded against the liquid and, in the second zone, the working fluid is re-compressed. Between the two zones, the working fluid is cooled. In one device, the cooling step occurs on the rotor in a third zone. In another device, the cooling occurs outside of the case.
