An electrical connector assembly includes a connector housing containing an electrical terminal and a mating connector housing containing a mating electrical terminal. The mating connector housing defines a connector shroud configured to receive the connector housing. The electrical connector assembly further includes a terminal stabilizer defining a terminal aperture surrounding the a electrical terminal and disposed within the connector shroud. The connector housing pushes the terminal stabilizer from a first position near a tip of the mating electrical terminal to a second position near a base of mating electrical terminal as electrical terminal is mated with the mating electrical terminal. The connector housing pulls the terminal stabilizer from the second position to the first position as the terminal is unmated from the mating electrical terminal.

Electrical connector with retractable terminal-stabilizer

An electrical connector includes a mating connector in which a plurality of electrical terminals are disposed. The mating connector defines a connector shroud configured to receive a corresponding connector. The electrical connector also includes a terminal stabilizer defining a plurality of terminal apertures surrounding the electrical terminals disposed within the connector shroud. The terminal stabilizer is configured to move from a prestaged position to a seated position when the connector is inserted within the connector shroud and is further configured to move from the seated position to the prestaged position when the connector is removed from the connector shroud.

A connector assembly includes, a connector-body, a dress-cover, a strain-relief-device, and a housing. The a connector-body retains electrical-terminals connected to cables enclosed in conduit. The dress-cover is attached to the connector-body and routes the cables. The dress-cover has sides and a base that receive the connector-body. The strain-relief-device is attached to the dress-cover. The strain-relief-device has a close-out panel having opposed side-edges, a top-edge and a bottom-edge. The housing has walls and a bottom configured to receive the connector-body, the dress-cover, and the strain-relief-device. The walls define a slot, and the connector-body, dress-cover, and a portion of the strain-relief-device are disposed within the slot. The walls have opposing-channels on a first-side and a second-side of the slot and terminate at the stops. The opposing-channels slideably engage the opposed side-edges. The bottom-edge engages the stops when the connector-body, the dress-cover and the portion of the strain-relief-device are disposed within the slot.

An electrical connector assembly includes a connector, a corresponding mating-connector, and a terminal-stabilizer. The a connector has a plurality of electrical-terminals. The connector also has an outer-surface that includes a plurality of retraction-fins. The mating-connector has a plurality of mating-electrical-terminals. The mating-connector is releasably connected to the connector along a mating-axis. The mating-connector includes a connector-shroud having side walls defining a shroud-cavity. The terminal-stabilizer is slideably disposed within the shroud-cavity and includes a plurality of retraction-locks that engage the plurality of retraction-fins on the connector. The terminal-stabilizer defines a plurality of terminal-apertures that slideably engage the plurality of mating-electrical-terminals. The terminal-stabilizer is moveable from a prestaged-position, when the connector and the mating-connector are in the unmated-position, to a seated-position, when the connector is moved to the mated-position. The connector retracts the terminal-stabilizer from the seated-position to the prestaged-position when the connector is moved from the mated-position to the unmated-position.

An electrical connector assembly including a moveable terminal stabilizer is presented. The terminal stabilizer is moveable from a stabilizing position to a stowed position. In the stabilizing position terminal stabilizer is near the tips of the terminals and in the stowed position is near the base of the terminals. The tip of the terminal is received in an aperture defined by the terminal, whereby the terminal stabilizer protects the terminal from being bent away from the terminal axis by a force applied to the terminal in a direction substantially orthogonal to the terminal axis. The terminal stabilizer also includes an integral lock retainer that engages a terminal lock member when the terminal stabilizer is in the stowed position thereby inhibiting movement of the lock member and disengaging the lock member when the terminal stabilizer is in the stabilizing position thereby allowing movement of the lock member.

A connector assembly is provided, and includes a first connector, a second connector, and a CPA device. The first connector has a stopper feature, a first end and a second end that generally opposes the first end. The stopper feature has a recess provided therein and a stopper surface. The second connector is received by the first connector. The second connector includes a shroud that slides over the first end of the first connector in a first direction. The CPA device is slidingly engaged with the second end of the first connector in a second direction that is generally perpendicular to the first direction. The CPA device has a flexible arm that is selectively deformable. In a pre-stage position, the flexible arm abuts against the stopper surface to restrict relative movement of the CPA device in the second direction.

Connector position assurance device

A connector assembly is provided. The connector assembly includes a connector having a connector body, and Tab-Down terminal, and a terminal position assurance device (TPA). The connector body has a cavity located therein and a flexible arm that is elastically deformable. The Tab-Down terminal is slidable in a first direction and in a second direction that generally opposes the first direction. The Tab-Down terminal is insertable within the cavity of the connector body in the first direction. The terminal position assurance (TPA) device is slidably engageable within the cavity of the connector. The TPA device has a primary lock support that is selectively positioned adjacent the flexible arm to limit deformation of the flexible arm. The connector assembly includes a pre-stage position and a full-stage position. In the pre-stage position the Tab-Down terminal moveable within the cavity. In the full-stage position movement of the Tab-Down terminal is limited.
