The invention relates to a method for applying an image of an electrically conductive material onto a recording medium. In the method, the recording medium is heated and the electrically conductive material is jetted onto the recording medium. The invention further relates to a device for ejecting droplets of an electrically conductive fluid onto a recording medium.

A method for controlling a temperature of a jetting device, the jetting device being configured to jet droplets of a fluid at a high temperature, the fluid comprising an electrically conductive fluid, wherein at least a part of the fluid is positioned in a magnetic field, includes heating the jetting device to an operating temperature, being defined as the temperature suitable for jetting droplets, using a heat jetting droplets by providing an electrical actuation current in the part of the fluid positioned in the magnetic field, thereby generating a force in the conductive fluid; determining upcoming jetting conditions, the upcoming jetting conditions being defined as the jetting conditions corresponding to droplets to be jetted at a time (t) which is later than the present time (t); determining settings for the heat based on the determined upcoming jetting conditions; controlling the heating of the jetting device using the heat in accordance with the determined settings.

Method for controlling the temperature of a jetting device

A device is configured to eject droplets of an electrically non-conductive medium at a temperature of 360&#xb0; C. or above. The device includes a fluid chamber body, the fluid chamber body having a fluid chamber for containing an electrically non-conductive medium at a temperature of 360&#xb0; C. or above and for containing a conductive medium. The fluid chamber includes an orifice. In the fluid chamber, at least a part of the electrically non-conductive medium is positioned closer to the orifice than the conductive medium. The device further includes a heater configured to heat the electrically non-conductive medium and an actuator, the actuator includes electrodes for generating a current in the conductive medium and magnets for generating a magnetic field in the conductive medium.

The steps include cutting grooves into the metallic outer layer of the drum body, forming an insulating surface layer at least on the internal walls of the grooves by converting the surface of the metallic outer layer into an insulating substance, and filling the grooves with electrically conductive material.

An image-forming element having a hollow cylindrical drum body, a plurality of circumferentially extending electrodes formed on the outer circumferential surface of the drum body, a control unit disposed inside of the drum body, and a contact member for electrically connecting each of the electrodes individually to the control unit. The contact members are arranged in a plurality of rows extending in the axial direction of the body and each of the contact members, when considered from the inner side of the wall of body, has a dimension, considered in the axial direction of the body, which is at least twice the corresponding dimension of an electrode.
