Generating images to be projected at different projection distances with a multi-aperture projection display, statically or without any conversion, neither mechanically nor at the imager, is enabled by designing the single images of the multi-aperture projection display in a suitable manner, namely by combining provisional single images for the projection channels of the multi-aperture projection display, which are intended for each of the at least two images to be projected, projection channel by projection channel, to the actual or final single images.

Multi-aperture projection display and single image generator for the same

A projection display is provided with an imager that is implemented to generate individual images in a distribution of sub-areas of an imaging plane of the imager. The projection display also includes a multi-channel optics, which is configured to map one allocated sub-area of the imager each per channel, such that the mappings of the individual images are combined to an overall image in a projection area. At least some channels of the multi-channel optics are arranged along at least one curve which is similar to at least one elongated image feature of the overall image, so that a two-dimension anisotropic out-of-focus behavior of each projected image point is obtained. In this way, a large depth of focus range can be combined with relatively high projection brightness without having to accept losses with respect to the focused illustration of image features that are to be projected with sufficient focus.

Projection display with multi-channel optics with non-circular overall aperture

A projection display includes an imager for displaying sub-images in a two-dimensional distribution of sub-areas of the imager and a projection optics array with a two-dimensional distribution of projection optics. The projection optics array is configured to superimpose projections of the sub-images to an overall image in an image plane such that a mutual area overlap of the projections of the sub-images in the image plane in pairs results, which is between 0.1 and 0.8 for all pairs. Here, the projection display is implemented such that the overall image is a virtual overall image.

Projection display and method for projecting an overall image

A projection display with an imaging system is described, which is implemented to generate individual images in a distribution, such as a two-dimensional distribution, of sub-areas of an imaging plane of the imaging system, and a multi-channel optics that is configured to map one allocated individual image or one allocated sub-area of the imaging system each per channel, such that the mapping of the individual images is at least partly superimposed to an overall image in a projection surface, wherein the projection surface is a non-planar free-form surface, such as a curved surface, and/or tilted with respect to the imaging plane, and the imaging system is implemented such that constellations of points in the sub-images, each superimposed in a respective common point in the overall image by the multi-channel optics, differ depending on what distance the respective common point in the overall image has to the multi-channel optics.

Projection display and method for displaying an overall image for projection free-form surfaces or tilted projection surfaces

A projection display includes at least one light source, at least one reflective image generator configured to represent frames in a two-dimensional distribution of subareas of same, a projection optics arrangement having a two-dimensional arrangement of optical projection elements and being configured to image an associated subarea of the at least one image generator onto an image plane in each case, so that images of the frames superimpose within the image plane to form an overall picture, and at least one beam splitter arranged within an optical path between the at least one reflective image generator and the two-dimensional arrangement of optical projection elements, on the one hand, and the optical path between the at least one light source and the at least one reflective image generator, on the other hand.

Projection display and method of displaying an overall picture

A projection display having at least one light source and also regularly-disposed optical channels. The optical channels comprise at least one field lens, to which respectively one object structure to be imaged and also at least one projection lens are assigned. The distance of the projection lenses from the assigned object structures corresponds to the focal distance of the projection lenses while the distance of the object structures to be imaged from the assigned field lens is chosen such that a K&#xf6;hler illumination of the assigned projection lens is made possible. Then the individual projections are superimposed to form the total image.
