A cushion tension assembly for a respiratory interface device is provided. Cushion tension assembly includes an adjustment assembly and a number of tension members. Each tension member is operatively coupled to the adjustment assembly and is operatively coupled to the cushion body. In this configuration, the adjustment assembly is structured to move cushion body between a first configuration in which the cushion body provides a generally continuous seal, and a second configuration in which the cushion body provides a more complete seal.

A fluid coupling member includes a housing having an interior and an exterior, the interior of the housing defining an airflow path through the fluid coupling member, a valve member pivotally attached to the interior of the housing, and at least one protrusion formed on the valve member or the housing. The at least one protrusion is structured to prevent the valve member from becoming stuck in a downward folded position against the housing.

An interface device comprises a cushion and a shell coupled thereto which together define an interior space with the face of a user. The shell includes an inlet port structured to have a conduit carrying a flow of treatment gas to the interior space selectively coupled thereto and a first aperture structured to allow the passage of ambient air into the interior space. A first sealing member is operatively coupled to the shell and is positioned such that the first sealing member is movable between a first state in which the first sealing member substantially seals the first aperture, and a second state wherein the sealing member does not substantially seal the first aperture. The first sealing member moves between the first state and the second state responsive to breathing of the patient.

A patient interface device includes a cushion member having a main body portion having a surface structured to engage a face of a patient. A frame member is coupled to the cushion member, and a fluid coupling conduit is coupled to the frame member. An engagement member is coupled to the cushion member; and a rotatable cam wheel is disposed between the frame member and the engagement member. Rotation of the cam wheel changes a position of the main body portion relative to the frame member. The cushion member includes a flexible portion adjacent the main body portion, and the cam wheel is rotatable about the flexible portion, such that rotation of the cam wheel about the flexible portion causes the flexible portion to deflect thereby moving the cushion member relative to the frame member.

A patient interface device includes a support structure, a pivot arm pivotably coupled to the support structure and structured to pivot about an axis, a patient coupling member, such as a mask or a forehead support, coupled to the pivot arm, and a cam wheel rotateably coupled to the support structure and engaging the pivot arm, wherein rotation of the cam wheel relative to the support structure and the pivot arm causes the pivot arm to pivot about the axis and the patient coupling member to move either forward or backward along a path of movement. Also, an alternative patient interface device includes a cam wheel rotatable about a cushion member that changes a position of a main body portion of the cushion member relative to a headgear frame member of the patient interface device.

A pressure reducing valve for use in a system adapted to deliver a breathing gas to a patient. The pressure reducing valve is structured to communicate a flow of breathing gas to such a patient's airway during an inspiratory phase. The pressure reducing valve is structured to isolate the flow of breathing gas from the patient's airway and to 'dump' the flow of breathing gas and a flow of exhalation gas to atmosphere during the expiratory phase. The flow of breathing gas is dumped to atmosphere through a first number of ports; whereas a flow of exhalation gas is dumped to atmosphere through a second number of ports. Because the flow of breathing gas remains isolated from the flow of exhalation gas, less effort is required by a patient during the expiratory phase.

Pressure reducing valve

An exhaust port assembly comprising a conduit carries a flow of gas. A vent assembly having a fixed exhaust area is provided on the conduit for venting a flow of exhaust gas from within the conduit to ambient atmosphere. The vent assembly is configured so as to minimize noise associated with the flow of exhaust gas passing to atmosphere, diffuse the flow of exhaust gas passing to ambient atmosphere over a relatively large area, and minimize the area occupied by the venting assembly on the conduit.

Exhaust port assembly for a pressure support system

A universally fitting headgear that is readily adjustable to a variety of different sized patients and that couples a patient interface device to an airway of the patient. The headgear includes a headpiece that fits on the user's heal in a cap-like fashion. The circumference of the headpiece is adjustable so that a single sized headgear can be fit to a number of different sized patient's. The headpiece includes adjustment straps which adjustably connect to each other on the sides of the patient's head. The headpiece further includes connecting straps to adjustably connecting the headgear to a patient interface device, such as a gas delivery mask. The headgear of the present invention fits a wide range of head sizes and shapes, is easy to use, and provides increased stability.
