Contamination detection systems, kits, and techniques are described for testing surfaces for the presence of hazardous contaminants, while minimizing user exposure to these contaminants. Even trace amounts of contaminants can be detected. A collection kit provides a swab that is simple to use, easy to hold and grip, allows the user to swab large areas of a surface, and keeps the user's hands away from the surface being tested. The kit also provides open and closed fluid transfer mechanism to transfer the collected fluid to a detection device while minimizing user exposure to hazardous contaminants in the collected fluid. Contamination detection kits can rapidly collect and detect hazardous drugs, including trace amounts of antineoplastic agents, in healthcare settings at the site of contamination.

Aspects of the disclosure relate to augmented reality devices for generating a composite scene including a real-world test environment and an augmented reality overlay visually representing a test area of the environment. Some devices can include wearable displays for displaying an overlay to a user, and other devices can include projectors for illuminating the test environment with the overlay.

Sterile intravenous catheter securements and securement dressings that provide simpler, more effective, and lower risk intravenous catheter placement and securement in a patient are described. Catheter securement dressings may include one or more adhesive portions positioned and configured to maintain a position of a catheter assembly following catheterization. Catheter securement dressings may be secured to a patient with an adhesive portion, and the catheter assembly may then be placed into the patient through an access opening in the catheter securement dressing. Portions of catheter securement dressings may then by folded over and adhered to each other and portions of the catheter assembly to secure the catheter assembly to the patient.

An antiseptic applicator may include a handle, a sponge, and a usage indicator. The handle may be configured to store antiseptic solution. The sponge may be configured to absorb the antiseptic solution when the antiseptic solution is released from the handle. The usage indicator may be configured to indicate a period of time that the sponge has been pressed to skin of a patient.

Described herein is a programmable portable infusion device. The infusion device may include electronics such as sensors, and can be programmed to detect parameters related to the proper administration of infusion. If the sensors detect that a parameter is outside of a defined boundary or range, the infusion device may notify a user that it may not be safe to administer infusion and may prevent infusion from occurring.

Intravenous catheter devices are provided which may include one or more adhesive portions which are positioned and configured to temporarily maintain a position of a catheter assembly following catheterization. A release liner covering and protecting the adhesive portions may be automatically removed to reveal the adhesive upon withdrawal of an introducer needle of the catheter assembly. The adhesive may be configured such that a clinician may insert the catheter assembly into the patient, adjust the catheter adapter of the catheter assembly to a desired position, withdraw the introducer needle, thereby removing a protective, non-adhesive release liner from the adhesive of the positioned catheter assembly, thereby temporarily fixing the position of the catheter assembly at the desired position by contacting the exposed adhesive to the skin of the patient.
