A single-side coated silver halide photographic film material has been disclosed, said film material comprising a support, at least one light-sensitive emulsion layer and a substantially light-insensitive protective hydrophilic colloid layer farther away from said support than said emulsion layer, wherein said emulsion layer contains a silver halide emulsion rich in silver bromide with cubic crystals having an average numerical diameter in the range from 0.4 up to 0.8 &mgr;m, wherein at least 95 mole % of bromide ions are present, and wherein said hydrophilic colloid layer or another substantially light-insensitive hydrophilic colloid layer essentially comprises a hydrazide represented by the general formula (I) having a silver halide adsorbing group or a masked silver halide adsorbing group; besides a method for forming a diagnostic image comprising the steps of contacting said photographic film material with an intensifying screen, forming a film/screen assembly, and exposing said assembly to X-ray radiation with an energy lower than or equal to 70 kVp, and processing said film material during a time of 90 seconds or less in a processing cycle following the steps of developing, fixing, rinsing and drying, and wherein the developing proceeds in a radiographic developer composition essentially comprising a hydroquinone and a phenidone (a 1-phenyl-3-pyrazolidine-1-one compound) as a developing agent and a heteroatomic nitro-indazol.

Diagnostic radiographic silver halide photographic film material

A system has been disclosed for use in radiographic industrial non-destructive testing materials and personal monitoring, making use therefor, of tabular silver brom(oiod)ide emulsion grains having &lcub;111&rcub; major faces, an average equivalent circular diameter of at least 0.5 &mgr;m and an average thickness of less than 0.30 &mgr;m, having been chemically sensitized by the steps of adding at least a gold salt in order to provide the surface of said tabular grains with at least 6000 atoms of gold per &mgr;m of its grain surface and per (0.1 &mgr;m of thickness) ; and at least a sulfite salt in such an amount that the ratio of the number of gold atoms per &mgr;m and (concentration of said sulfite salt, expressed in mmole per mole of silver) is at least 200000.

System for direct X-ray radiography suitable for use in industrial non-destructive testing applications and personal monitoring

A radiographic film material has been described for recording medical diagnostic images of soft tissue through exposure to light, emitted by a single intensifying screen, after having been subjecting to exposure with X-rays, emitted from an X-ray generating device with a tube voltage of 20 kV to 40 kV, and processing, including development, fixing and drying, within a time of 120 (and more preferably 90) seconds or less, wherein said film is comprised of a transparent film support, front and back major faces and an image-forming portion for providing, when imagewise exposed by light emitted by said intensifying screen and processed, an average contrast or gradient in the range from 3.0 up to 4.5, measured over a density above fog in the range of from 0.25 to 2.00, and wherein said image-forming portion is comprised of layer units permeable for aqueous processing solutions, said layer units being a hydrophilic front layer unit coated on the said front major face of the support wherein the front layer unit is capable of reaching a maximum density of more than 3.00; a hydrophilic back layer unit coated on the said back major face of the support; wherein sensitivity (speed), measured at a density of 0.50 above fog, is higher for the front layer unit than for the back layer unit in an amount of from 0.70 up to 1.70 log (Exposure); characterized in that both the front layer unit and the back layer unit have one or more light-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer(s) coated with emulsion crystals, essentially having a cubic crystal habit.

Photographic silver halide photographic material for mammography

A direct X-ray system for industrial radiography like non-destructive testing applications, and personal monitoring, being particularly less sensitive to pressure phenomena, has been disclosed, said system consisting of a direct X-ray black-and-white negative-working radiographic film material, comprised of a transparent support coated on at least one side thereof with a tabular grain emulsion layer, substantially free from spectrally sensitizing dyes, in which at least 50 percent of total grain projected area of all grains is accounted for by silver bromoiodide tabular grains having an iodide content of less than 5 mole %, based on silver, having an average aspect ratio of at least 2, and having a volume greater than 0.03 &mgr;m , further characterized in that said tabular grain emulsion layer(s) comprise(s), in an amount of from 5 mg up to 100 mg per mole of coated silver bromoiodide at least one desensitizing agent having a hetero-aromatic part and an electron-withdrawing group and (2) disposed on opposite sides of the radiographic element, two intensifying screen sheets selected from the group consisting of lead, lead oxide, copper and steel, said screen sheets having been designed in order to emit electrons when exposed to X- or &ggr;-rays with an energy greater than or equal to 10 kVp.

Film/screen system and image-forming system for use in direct X-ray applications

A silver halide photographic material has been provided, having in a layer arrangement at one or both sides of a subbed support, corresponding with a single-side coated or a double-side coated material respectively, one or more layer(s) comprising a light-sensitive silver halide emulsion, one or more protective antistress layer(s) and, optionally, an outermost afterlayer, wherein at least one of said layers, subbing layer(s) inclusive, further comprises means in order to provide, when conditioned at a relative humidity of at most 30%, an electrical resistance, measured as described in Research Disclosure June 1992, item 33840, of from 4&times;10,&OHgr;/sq. up to 5&times;10,&OHgr;/sq. for the layer having the lowest resistance.

Light-sensitive silver halide radiographic film material having satisfactory antistatic properties during handling

A method has been disclosed for preparing a tabular silver halide emulsion wherein tabular silver halide grains having an average aspect ratio of at least 2:1, an average crystal diameter from 0.3 &mgr;m to 3.0 &mgr;m and an average thickness of less than 0.50 &mgr;m account for at least 50% of the total projective surface area of said grains, said method comprising the steps of precipitating, spectrally sensitizing and chemically ripening said grains, characterized by spectrally sensitizing by adding to the emulsion grains before chemically ripening at least one J-band aggregating spectrally sensitizing dye and at least one non-J-band aggregating dye. A light-sensitive silver halide emulsion having at least one J-band aggregating dye and at least one non-J-band aggregating dye comprising said tabular grains has also been disclosed as well as a light-sensitive silver halide photographic X-ray material comprising a support, at least one hydrophilic colloid layer on at least one side of said support and one or more photosensitive layer(s) comprising the said silver halide photographic emulsion and a radiographic screen-film combination comprising at least one X-ray intensifying screen in operative association with the said material.

Light-sensitive silver halide material providing improved surface characteristics after processing

An image-forming film-screen system for medical diagnostic imaging is disclosed comprising a light-sensitive silver halide photographic film material in operative association with at least one intensifying screen comprising on a support a layer of a visible light emitting luminescent phosphor, the said film material comprising a support and on at least one side thereof a light-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer having spectrally sensitized tabular silver halide and a non-light-sensitive protective layer, wherein said protective layer contains a polymeric compound selected from the group consisting of gelatin, a synthetic, semi-synthetic or natural substitute for gelatin and latex (co)polymers, in an amount of at least 0.4 g per m.sup.2 ; characterized in that between a light-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer and said protective layer there is an intermediate layer comprising a blue colored pigment in dispersed form, having a solubility in isopropanol at 25.degree. C. of less than 10 mg per liter.

A method is described to provide a radiographic silver halide material by coating on at least one side of a support, covered with a hydrophobic subbing layer comprising as a latex copolymer vinylidene chloride, methylacrylate and itaconic acid, following hydrophilic layers: at least one gelatinous dye containing layer comprising one or more dyes, at least one silver halide emulsion layer, at least one protective antistress layer, and optionally an afterlayer, characterized in that said hydrophilic layers have a swelling ratio of not more than 200% and in that said hydrophilic layers are coated simultaneously by the slide-hopper coating or by the slide-hopper curtain coating technique.

Method of manufacturing a silver halide photographic silver halide

A photographic material has been coated on at least one side of a support with in at least one photosensitive layer hexagonal and/or circular tabular silver halide emulsion crystals occupying at least 70% of the total projected area of all grains, having a thickness of 0.15 to 0.30 .mu.m, a coefficient of variation of the tabular grains between 0.15 and 0.45 and an average aspect ratio of at least 2:1, prepared in the absence of ammonia by growing the nuclei, prepared at a pBr value between 1.0 and 2.0 and consuming less than 10% by weight of silver nitrate, during a first growth step at a pBr value between 1.0 and 2.5 consuming at least 10% by weight of silver nitrate and during a second growth step at a pBr value higher than 2.7 during the addition of at least 40% of the total amount of silver nitrate used. The loss in sensitivity and gradation after development of said material in a diluted cheap developer after exposing said photographic material containing said emulsion grains is neglectable in comparison with the characteristics obtained after development in stronger high quality developers.

Method for making tabular silver halide grains

For the processing in a total processing time of 60 seconds or less of exposed X-ray materials containing silver bromide or silver bromoiodide emulsions use is made of an aqueous alkaline photographic developing solution, having a pH in the range of 9 to 12, comprising a dihydroxybenzene developing agent, 4-hydroxymethyl-4-methyl-1-phenyl-3-pyrazolidinone as an auxiliary developing agent, at least one organic antifoggant and a compound providing iodide ions.
