The invention relates to a process for increasing the range of production of an installation for cold rolling of metallic strip, consisting of at least two rolling stands (L, L) operating in tandem. According to the invention, at least one (L) of the rolling stands is equipped with means of converting the stand configuration, while keeping the same means () of applying the rolling force, in order to have at least two configurations available, each corresponding to one production range, and the configuration of said convertible stand Lis selected to match the data of the product (M) to be rolled, thus allowing the production range to be increased.

The invention relates to a process for increasing the range of production of an installation for cold rolling of metallic strip, consisting of at least two rolling stands operating in tandem. According to the invention, at least one of the rolling stands is equipped with means of converting the stand configuration, while keeping the same means of applying the rolling force, in order to have at least two configurations available, each corresponding to one production range, and the configuration of said convertible stand is selected to match the data of the product (M) to be rolled, thus allowing the production range to be increased.

The invention concerns a method for controlling the butt welding, by flash welding, of two metallic parts (A, A') in a welding machine of the type comprising two pairs of clamping dies (&#x2032;) mounted respectively on a fixed frame () and on a mobile frame (&#x2032;) for contacting rear () and front (&#x2032;) ends of both parts (A, A&#x2032;) and the flow of an electric welding current. According to the invention, on the one hand a set of electric parameters including at least the voltage (U) and the intensity (I) of the welding current and on the other hand the relative position of the mobile frame (&#x2032;) with respect to the fixed frame () are measured at any moment and the travel of the mobile frame () is regulated in position from at least one of the measured value of said electric parameters, in order to control the closing-in speed v(t) of the ends () of both parts (A, A&#x2032;) taking in account the progress of the welding process, during at least a portion thereof.

Method and device for controlling the welding by flash welding of two metallic parts

The invention relates to a method for rolling a metal band in a continuous line installation with coupling of the pickling and cold rolling processes. According to the invention, the composition of the pickling fluid is determined to allow the running of the band in the bath at a minimum speed of a few metres per minute, and similar running speeds are maintained in the pickling and rolling sections, during the operating phases, whereas the rolling conditions are determined in order to maintain the requested quality of the band at a minimum rolling speed that may be as low as 1 metre per minute.

A splicing machine for connecting metallic bands including at least three toolings determining successively the cutting profile of both edges (m1, m2) to be connected, the welding of both edges on to one another and the flattening of the welded matter in excess. The machine includes a tool carriage (3) mounted to slide parallel to the running direction of the bands (M1, M2) on which are mounted to slide, perpendicular to the running direction, at least two supporting chassis (41, 51), each for one of the connecting toolings (4,5), a motor and a worm (32) for positioning either connecting tooling (4,5) in a common working position, by sliding the tool carriage (3) and apparatus to control the transversal sliding motion of the corresponding tooling for the actuation of the latter.

A process and apparatus for rolling a metal product (5) in a 'four-high' type rolling mill comprising two work rolls (1) and (2) interposed between two backup rolls (3) (4) at least one of which is of the variable camber type having a cylindrical casing (33) mounted on a central shaft (31), the profile of the casing (33) being adjustable. The other backup roll (4) is a simple solid coacting roll whicl deforms freely under the action of the pressure load to form a line of support (47) which is concave in the direction of the roll pass (50). The deformation of the casing (33) of the variable camber backup roll (3) is controlled so as to form a line of support (37) which is convex in the direction of the roll pass (50) and substantially parallel to the line of support (47) of the coacting roll (4), and the camber of the work roll (1) is adjusted so as to maintain a constant thickness of the roll pass over the entire width of the product (5), the latter on leaving the rolling mill having an incurved transverse profile capable of being subsequently corrected.

Process and apparatus for rolling a metal sheet or strip

At an installation comprising a roll stand having at least one roll of the variable camber type, comprising a fixed support and a casing carried by at least three jacks and rotationally movable about the support, the pressure of the fluid in each of the jacks (14), the position of the pistons of these jacks, the speed of rotation of the roll, and the flatness and thickness of the flat product are measured. The position of one of the jacks (14b) is controlled by the thickness measurement. The pressure in the other jacks (14a, 14c, 14d, 14e) is controlled by the pressure in the one jack (14b). The positions of the end jacks (14a and 14e) are compared and the pressure in the jacks (14) is modified in order to bring the tilt of the roll to a suitable value. The deformation of the fixed support is calculated and the shape of the generatrix of contact of the roll is determined. The pressure in the jacks (14) is modified in order to bring the generatrix to a reference shape. The invention is particularly applicable to four-high rolling mills having variable camber supporting rolls.
