A dynamic user interface for previewing live content includes multiple tiles. A selection can be received from a user to define a tiled user interface layout that includes the multiple tiles each configured to display content from an associated content gallery. The content can be displayed on the multiple tiles in the tiled user interface layout, and one or more of the tiles change over time to display different pieces of the content from the associated content gallery of a tile.

A dynamic user interface for previewing live content includes multiple tiles. User interface layouts can be displayed that each have multiple tiles displaying multiple pieces of content, where the multiple pieces of content includes different types of content and each of the multiple tiles display a piece of the content. A command input can be received to change a current user interface layout, and a transition is initiated to display a next user interface layout that includes one or more of the multiple tiles displaying the multiple pieces of content or different multiple pieces of the content.

Described is a scrolling technology including a turbo-scroll mode that is automatically entered to increase the rate of scrolling through a set of items, (e.g., media content). The turbo-scroll mode may be triggered by holding down a scroll button for a period of time. In the turbo-scroll mode, visual cues are provided to assist the user in knowing a current relative position within the set of items. The visual cues may correspond to text metadata, such as letters indicative of an alphabetic position of scrolling, displaying a list or filtered sub-list of label data for items proximate the scroll position, a graphical position indicator, a channel indicator or time indicator for an electronic program guide, fading the electronic program guide into a background representation thereof, and/or providing at least two letters indicative of an alphabetic position of scrolling through the items.

A dynamic user interface for previewing live content includes multiple tiles. Information for multiple pieces of live content available from a gallery is obtained, and this information is presented in the multiple tiles of the user interface in accordance with a current user interface layout. In accordance with one aspect, this current user interface layout changes automatically over time as the user interface is displayed. In accordance with another aspect, one or more of the multiple tiles is displayed in the user interface more prominently than the other tiles, and which information is to be displayed in the one or more tiles is based at least in part on a received fee.

A list of media, such as image media, is dynamically generated and provided to a user. The dynamically generated media playlist may be associated with a user's 'favorite pictures,' 'favorite music' or some other type of media. Each of the &#x201c;favorite media&#x201d; features may be associated with playlist criteria, which is used to dynamically construct a query for media files to include on the playlist. The criteria may specify several requirements for including media in the dynamically created playlist, for example user rating, recently added media, and other criteria. The query is sent to a database, which returns a playlist of media. The returned playlist is provided to a media center, which retrieves and provides the listed media to a user.

Dynamic selection of media for playback

A toolbar displays dynamically configured controls based on a size of a window in which an application is running and on the media type presented. A large set of available controls may be available for the toolbar; however, the size of the application window in which the application is running may not be able to display all of the available controls in the window in such as way as to be comfortably used by a user. Accordingly, the controls may be scaled, filtered, and interchanged according to the 'real estate' available in the application window, as well as other contextual aspects of the application, to provide a more user-friendly experience.

Described is a system and method for managing a message view on a mobile device. The system includes a switch manager and a plurality of message stores. Message stores may include an email account, SMS account, and a MMS account. A message view may include a custom view of the message stores. An input is received that enables the switch manager to switch between one view of the message stores and another view. In one embodiment, the input is a left or right key entry. Continuous entry of the left or right key entry enables a user to switch through views of the message stores, in a deterministic approach.
