A water dilutable UV-curable polyurethane containing alkylene oxide groups, the polyurethane being obtained from components comprising at least: (i) 1 to 25 wt. % of at least one polyisocyanate; (ii) 0 to 80 wt. % of at least one hydroxyl functional compound containing alkylene oxide groups; (iii) 10 to 90 wt. % of at least one hydroxyl functional compound containing at least one polymerizable unsaturated (meth)acryloyl functional group per molecule; and (iv) 0 to 50 wt. % of at least one isocyanate-reactive compound not comprised by (ii) or (iii); wherein the sum of (i) to (iv) is 100%.

An aqueous coating composition, which when in the form of a film exhibits an MVTR of &#x2266;500 g/m/24 h comprising 20 to 80 wt % of a polyurethane A with an acid value of 8 to 40 mg KOH/g and a hard segment content &#x2267;40 wt %, a ring structure content &#x2267;48 wt % and 80 to 20 wt % of a vinyl polymer B with a Tg&#x2267;20&#xb0; C.

An aqueous composition comprising a polyurethane dispersion with a sediment content &#x2266;5%, wherein the polyurethane has an acid value in the range of from 25 to 65 mgKOH/g and comprises (i) 36 to 60 wt % of at least one aromatic polyisocyanate and where the polyurethane is prepared in the presence of (a) &#x2266;5 wt % of 1-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone by weight of the polyurethane and (b) at least one reactive diluent.

An aqueous composition with a sediment content &#x3c;5%, comprising a polyurethane dispersion wherein the polyurethane has an acid value in the range of from 25 to 65 mgKOH/g and comprises (i) 36 to 60 wt % of at least one aromatic polyisocyanate and where the polyurethane is prepared in the presence of (a) &#x3c;5 wt % of 1-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone by weight of the polyurethane, (b) at least one diluent and (c) water.
