A solution for measuring torque and other parameters of a mechanical component is provided. At least two bands can be affixed to the mechanical component and at least two sensing assemblies can be operatively coupled to each band. Each sensing assembly generates signals indicative of relative movement between a respective band and the sensing assembly. A signal conditioner conditions the signals for a computing unit to determine the torque to the mechanical component. The computing unit can determine the torque from a twist of the mechanical component that can be correlated with the torque.

A method for real-time monitoring and characterization of network conditions experienced by a client device coupled to a WLAN via at least one access point is presented. One or more primary performance parameters of the WLAN for a given operating interval of the client device uplink to the access point are received. At least one derived performance parameter based on the one or more primary performance parameters is computed. Trends of the primary performance parameter and the derived performance parameter are analyzed to identify occurrence of at least one problem signature. A situational awareness state characterizing the network conditions based on the at least one problem signature is defined. The situational awareness state is further processed to identify the occurrence of at least one transient fault condition in the WLAN.

Systems and methods for characterization of transient network conditions in wireless local area networks

A method for evaluating non-optimal roaming of a client device in a communication network is presented. The method includes detecting a transition of the client device from a first access point to a second access point and evaluating at least one performance parameter corresponding to each of the first access point and the second access point after the client device transitions from the first access point to the second access point. Further, the method includes determining a number of one of flip-flop events and undesirable roam events based on the evaluation of the at least one performance parameter. Also, the method includes identifying the non-optimal roaming of the client device based on one of the number of flip-flop events and the number of the undesirable roam events. Furthermore, the method includes modifying at least one roaming algorithm to achieve optimal roaming of the client device in the communication network.

According to some embodiments, information associated with collisions occurring as packets are exchanged through a wireless network may be measured. At least one media access control parameter may then be automatically and dynamically adjusted to achieve a throughput requirement, at a relatively low latency, while reducing collisions in the wireless network.

A system maintains quality of service of a wireless network. The system includes a first layer, a second layer, and a third layer. The first layer configures a directional antenna to transmit and receive in particular sectors based on antenna gain, transmission power, and beam width. The second layer communicates a direction and range to the first layer. The third layer maintains information summarizing connectivity between a plurality of nodes. The third layer determines whether to extend the range of the signal from a predetermined default range to an extended range.

A method and system for routing traffic in a communication network is disclosed that may include assigning each node in a network a first subset of route repository nodes and a second subset of route repository nodes, querying the second subset of route repository nodes in order to obtain route information that is stored in the second subset of route repository nodes, computing route information by applying a route computation algorithm to the first subset of route repository nodes, and routing traffic in the communication network based on the route information obtained from the second subset of route repository nodes and the route information computed using the first subset of route repository nodes.

A method and system for monitoring and controlling a power distribution system is provided. The system includes a plurality of circuit breakers and a plurality of node electronic units. Each node electronic unit is mounted remotely from an associated circuit breaker that is electrically coupled with one of the node electronic units. The system also includes a first digital network, and a first central control unit. The first central control unit and the plurality of node electronic units are communicatively coupled to the first digital network. The method includes receiving digital signals from each node electronic unit at the central control unit, determining an operational state of the power distribution system from the digital signal, and transmitting digital signals to the plurality of node electronic units such that the circuit breakers are operable from the first central control unit.

A method and system of congestion control in a network are provided. A required quality of service (QoS) parameter, such as a maximum allowable latency, for a packet received at a queue in the network, and a route cost metric, such as accumulated and estimated latency, are determined, and the packet is either discarded if the route cost metric exceeds the required QoS parameter, or a discard bias value is set for the packet. Also, if the required QoS parameter exceeds the route cost metric, the method includes determining whether a congestion condition exists in the network, and if the congestion condition exists, biasing the packet for discard based on its latency if the route cost metric for the packet exceeds a threshold. The network may be an IP network, and a network such as a mobile ad hoc network (MANET).

The network includes a plurality of node electronics units communicatively coupled to at least one central control processing unit through at least one network wherein each network includes a network switch. The method includes coupling a monitoring domain to the network, and receiving at least one of network traffic transmitted on at least one of the monitored links, and network traffic received on at least one of the monitored links through at least one monitoring link. A method for synchronizing a plurality of processors within a computer system is provided. The computer system includes a plurality of processors that are each communicatively coupled to a respective network wherein each network is independent of each other network. The method includes receiving a plurality of input signals at a first rate from at least one source, transmitting the input signals to a reference object, and transforming the input signal to a known temporal reference. A method for communicating information bundled in digital message packets via a digital network communication system is provided. The digital network communication system a sample source and each packet includes a header and a communication payload area. The method includes sampling the source at a first sample rate, selecting at least one decimation of the samples based on at least one of a plurality of algorithmic data rates and a channel bandwidth, determining a packet rate based on a plurality of algorithmic latency requirements, and transmitting the digital message packet containing decimated data on the digital network.

A protection system for a power distribution system is provided. The protection system includes a central computer, a plurality of data modules, and a data network. The data modules are each in communication with a different circuit breaker of the power distribution system. The data network communicates between the central computer and the plurality of data modules.
