An orbital tensioner comprising an annular base, a ring journalled to the annular base on a ball bearing, said ring having a ring axis of rotation (A-A), a first pulley journalled to the ring, a first pulley axis of rotation (B-B) offset from the ring axis of rotation (A-A), a pivot arm pivotally mounted to the ring, a pivot arm pivot axis (C-C) offset from the ring axis of rotation (A-A), a second pulley journalled to the pivot arm, a torsion spring biasing the pivot arm in a first direction, the ball bearing having a first race and a second race, the ring fixed to the first race, the annular base fixed to the second race, and a damping mechanism frictionally disposed between the ring and the base.

Sprocket

A method of forming a sprocket comprising forming a sprocket member having a tooth profile, forming grooves in the sprocket member base, installing a plurality of sprocket members in a mandrel thereby forming a build, applying an elastomer member between adjacent sprocket members, wrapping a tensile member about the sprocket members and elastomer members, curing the build, removing the build from the mandrel, and inverting the build and joining the build to a rigid core.

A decoupling isolator comprising a pulley, a hub member comprising a stop, a flat wire spiral spring having an end fixedly connected to the pulley, the flat wire spiral spring having another end engageable with the stop to limit a rotation of the pulley.

An isolator decoupler comprising a first tapered portion for connecting to a driving shaft, a second tapered portion cooperatively engaging the first tapered portion, the second tapered portion having a frictional engagement with a pulley, and an elastomeric member operatingly disposed between the second tapered portion and the pulley.

A coupling sleeve for use in a sleeve-type, flexible, shaft-coupling device, having a generally annular body portion with one or more axially extending, polymeric or elastomeric teeth on at least one of its inner and outer periphery and having a rigid support band with a rigid, axially extending fin protruding radially into at least one of the teeth. The coupling sleeve has a cross sectional area with a rigid band portion that occupies the minor portion of the cross section relative to the polymeric portion. Torque applied to the teeth of the coupling sleeve during use is resisted by the fins and the tooth material is thus placed in compression.

Crankshaft damper

A fan idler pulley having a threaded hub for attaching a fan shaft. The pulley also comprises a receiving portion for engaging a bearing. The bearing is further engaged with a cup. The entire assembly is mounted by a pin press fit though the cup into a mounting surface such as an engine block or front cover. The pulley may be engaged to either the inner race or the outer race of the bearing.

The invention comprises a crankshaft damper having an integral pulse ring. The crankshaft damper comprises an inner hub and outer pulley with an elastomeric connecting member between each. The elastomeric ring dampens a crankshaft vibration. The integral pulse ring is manufactured as part of the inner hub by flow forming a sheet metal blank.

Internal spun hub and method of making same

A weight reduced pulley for 'K' type poly-v belt systems includes a body having an outer cylindrical surface. A plurality of raised ribs extend from said surface and run circumferentially around said surface. A plurality of trough areas are positioned between the ribs. The ribs and troughs corresponding to the location of indented and raised areas, respectively, on a poly-v belt. The ribs have a cross sectional profile extending radially traverse of the axis of rotation of the pulley, each rib being bounded by a pair of planar side walls at relative angles of 40.degree.+0.5.degree.. The side walls terminate in a 140.degree. arc having a radius of 0.5 mm, the outermost point of said arc terminating 0.96 mm inward of the intersection of the upward projections of the planar side walls or apex. The planar side walls extend radially inward at least 3.44 mm from said apex. The trough areas are bounded by the outer cylindrical surface of said pulley, said surface being 3.57 mm from said apex. The outer cylindrical surface is flattened in cross section in said trough areas and a fillet having a radius from 0.25 to 0.35 mm forms a transition between said planar side walls and said flattened surfaces. The pulley incorporates a mounting plate and has an inner cylindrical surface concentric with said outer surface. The inner cylindrical surface extends from the mounting plate to an open periphery. For a pulley having an effective diameter of 150 mm, the thickness of the pulley between the outer cylindrical surface and the inner cylindrical surface is 1.14 mm. In an alternative embodiment, the inner cylindrical surface alternative embodiment, the inner cylindrical surface is tapered towards the open periphery so that for a similar 150 mm pulley, the thickness varies from 1.14 mm adjacent the mounting plate to 0.89 mm adjacent the open periphery. The pulley is manufactured by concurrently compressing and impressing a can-like blank of hot rolled low carbon steel material with spin forming tools which impress in said material the rib and trough profiles of the pulley.
