A medical imaging system includes an endoscope and a processor. The endoscope includes a camera that outputs a video signal with a plurality of portions. The processor receives the video signal and processes a first portion of the plurality of portions according to a first processing mode to generate a first processed video signal, processes a second portion of the plurality of portions of the sensor signal according to a second processing mode to generate a second processed video signal, and generates an output video signal using the first processed video signal and the second processed video signal.

Simultaneous display of two or more different sequentially processed images

A modular video imaging system, and more particularly, a modular video imaging system having a control module connectable to multiple input modules. The input modules each capable of receiving differing types of image data from different types of cameras and processing the image data into a format recognizable by the control module. The control unit providing general functions such as user interface and general image processing that is not camera specific.

A medical camera system includes a video medical scope defining an enclosed space within a distal portion and a proximal portion that a user can attach and detach to each other. The two portions both have an interface for coupling to each other allowing radio frequency communications across a patient isolation barrier having improvements to avoid interfering with surrounding equipment. Power transfer elements provide for power transfer across the patient isolation barrier.

A medical imaging system includes an image sensor and a processor. The image sensor generates a sensor video signal comprising a plurality of portions. The processor receives the sensor video signal, processes a first portion of the plurality of portions of the sensor video signal according to a first processing mode to generate a first processed video signal, processes a second portion of the plurality of portions of the sensor video signal according to a second processing mode to generate a second processed video signal, and generates an output video signal using the first processed video signal and the second processed video signal.

A first connector for a medical instrument has one or more first channels extending through a first surface, and terminating at respective ends. A second connector has opposing second channels for coupling with the first channels. A first power transfer element is mounted on the first connector, and defines a first cross-sectional shape that encompasses at least one of the one or more first channels and has a first central axis extending through the first surface. A second power transfer element on the second connector defines a second cross-sectional shape that encompasses at least one of the one or more second channels and has a second central axis extending through the second surface. The first power transfer element may instead be on a side surface of the first connector, and may couple with a paired element on a receptacle or extension of the second connector.

Apparatus and method of providing an interface to an electrically powered instrument

A video imaging system, and more particularly, a modular video imaging system having a control module connectable to multiple input modules. The input modules each capable of receiving differing types of image data from different types of cameras including stereoscopic camera configurations and processing the image data into a format recognizable by the control module. A system and method for providing light to an optical scope having a lightport. A light device connects a camera to an optical scope and supplies light to the scope while allowing for scope rotation. The light device has a proximal end attached to the distal end of the camera, a distal end adapted to be attached to and detached from the scope, and a light source. The light source may be powered by electrical power received from the camera. A light cable extends from the light device and has a distal end adapted to be attached to and detached from the light post on the scope to supply light to the scope. The distal end of the light device is rotatable with respect to the distal end of the camera such that the light cable is able to rotate about the optical axis of the camera.

A medical system automatically identifies a user based on matching a partial facial image of the user with a database of authorized users. The medical system automatically configures based on the user identification and received patient data. The medical system further automatically identifies a patient based on matching a facial image of the patient with an image of the patient to confirm the correct patient is in the operating room. The medical system still further provides for gaze detection and gesture control by a user such that the user in the sterile environment can directly control devices outside the sterile environment.

A medical imaging system having a processor with software executing thereon is provided for processing and display of multiple bandwidths of video in multiple display areas. The system receives a video signal with a plurality of portions and generates at least two signals there from. Each of the two signals has a bandwidth for display in a different display area. The two signals are updated so that each component displays a different portion of the input video signal, and the two signals may be combined for display on a single display device having two display areas.

An endoscope, endoscopic system and method for filling a medical display with a medical image involving sizing the medical image so that it covers at least one of the dimensions of the medical display. Automatically sizing the medical image to fit either the vertical, horizontal, or corner-to-corner dimensions of the surgical display, the sizing of the image involving adjusting the image size to account for changing zoom factors, endoscopes and imaging conditions.

A system for automatically identifying a blade that is connected to a hand piece based on data transmitted from the blade to the hand piece. The blade is provided with a first electronic coupler that communicates with a second electronic coupled positioned in the hand piece such that data related to the blade is transmitted to the hand piece and controllers/computers and in the case of reusable blades, updated data is transmitted to the blade to be saved in a memory coupled to the first electronic coupler. The coupling system can be either a hard wired or wireless coupling between the blade and the hand piece.

Auto recognition of a shaver blade for medical use

A control unit is detachably coupled to a camera and receptive of the imaging data with a plurality of data processing instructions being stored on the camera and/or the control unit such that when the camera is coupled to the control unit, the plurality of data processing instructions transfer the imaging data from the camera to the control unit. The data processing instructions being field upgradeable with a portable upgrading module which may couple directly to either the camera and/or the control unit.
