Self converging wide screen color picture tube system

In a deflection yoke mounted on a cathode ray tube, a pair of silicon steel field harmonic enhancers are placed over rear portions of a horizontal deflection coil of a saddle coil type near an electron beam entrance region of the coils such that portions of the saddle coils are interposed between the field harmonic enhancers and a neck portion of the cathode ray tube. The field harmonic enhancers reduce horizontal coma error by making the horizontal deflection field in the rear portion of the saddle coils more pincushion shaped.

A self converging deflection yoke includes saddle coils having tabs mounted on or, alternatively, spaces formed in the windings. The tabs or spaces are located intermediate a gun end and a screen end of the deflection yoke. The tabs or spaces correct misconvergence at, the 2:30, 4:30, 8:30 and 10:30 hour points of a crosshatch pattern.

A deviator associated with an autoconvergent color image tube is modified so that it may be used in combination with a tube of the same type, but having an image screen of smaller size, the horizontal and/or vertical deviation center being displaced. According to the invention, a magnetic screen is placed across the magnetic field lines produced by the vertical and horizontal deviation coils whereby the deviation centers are displaced without any modification of the coils.
