A colorant splitting method performed by a colorant splitter wherein an n-dimensional color in an n-dimensional colorant space is converted to an m-dimensional colorant space by a colorant splitting curve set and wherein the colorant splitting curve set is the result of interpolation of a set of colorant splitting curve sets to improve the image quality of reproduced content and to improve the usage of total coverage of the colorants.

Colorant splitting method

A standard printer characterization target is printed with a reference printer and measured. From the measured data, a model is derived that describes for each ink the behavior of each individual ink in combination with different combinations of the other inks. In order to reduce the complexity for obtaining a printer model of a second printer, a second target is printed that includes only a subset of the color patches in the standard printer characterization target. With the model and interpolation, it is possible to reconstruct colorimetric data for missing color patches in the reduced target.

Method and apparatus for calculating metameric colors

The invention deals with a method for replacing the colorant values of a raster image by a new set of colorant values that is for example optimized for a standardized printing process. According to the invention, a forward look up table is identified that transforms the colorant values in the raster image into color values. The color values in this look up table are separated into new colorant values to obtain a colorant to colorant interpolation look up table. This is done by using an inverse transformation that is based on the forward look up table using appropriate separation parameters for the standardized printing process. The method has the advantage that it enables to map pure colorant values in the original image back onto pure colorant values in the transformed image.

Method for creating a color link

A method separates a color vector into a colorant vector for a printing system that uses more than four colorants, for example cyan, magenta, yellow, black, orange and green colorants. According to the method, the separation process is split up into partial four colorant processes that contain opponent colors. For example, a first partial process is a cyan, magenta, yellow and black process; a second one is an orange, magenta, yellow and black process; and a third one is a cyan, green, yellow and black process. Continuity of magnitudes of the colorants is achieved across the boundaries of the color gamuts of the partial processes by imposing specific constraints on the combinations of colorants to render a given color. A computer implemented system and a print system are based on the method.

Multicolorant separation system and method

An output color profile, such as an ICC output profile, contains a look-up table to separate the color of a pixel, for example a CIELAB color, into a set of colorant values, for example CMYK colorants. In practice, most CMYK images have been separated using one of a limited set of standardized output profiles. The problem to be solved is guessing which one of these standardized output profiles has been used to separate a specific image. For this purpose the CMYK values of the image are analyzed. The analysis involves calculating a distance in the CMYK space between the CMYK values of an image, and the CMYK values produced by different output profiles. A profile is selected based on these distances, for example by selecting the profile yielding the shortest distance. This profile is then used for converting the CMYK colorant values of the image into CIELAB color values.
