A method and an apparatus are described for infiltrating tissue samples with carrier material, preferably paraffin. A supply of carrier material is kept ready for use in a supply station. From there, the carrier material can be delivered into at least a first and a second container. In these first and second containers carrier materials of differing degrees of purity are kept ready for use, respectively, for performing various infiltration steps on tissue samples. By means of the described method and apparatus the tissue processor can be operated with as little interruptions as possible and an ease in operation is achieved.

Method and apparatus for infiltrating tissue samples with paraffin

The present invention relates to a tissue infiltration device () for samples () contained in cassettes (). The tissue infiltration device () comprises at least two liquid containers (-) and a transport apparatus (). A liquid () having a property that can be predetermined can be filled into a liquid container (-). A plurality of cassettes () can be held by a transport device (). Using the transport apparatus (), a transport device () can be brought to a liquid container (-) and/or moved away from a liquid container (-). A sequence of operations () can be prescribed in which a transport device () runs through the liquid containers (-) of the tissue infiltration device (). So that an accelerated or priority processing of a transport device () is possible using the tissue infiltration device (), but without using an additional liquid container (-) provided only for this purpose, it is provided that at least two transport devices () can be brought into a liquid container (-) above and/or next to one another, wherein said transport devices can have different dwell times in the liquid container (-).

Tissue infiltration device

A tissue processor is described that comprises a retort for processing histological samples using various reagents, a plurality of exchangeable reagent supply containers that each comprise at least one container opening, a system of conduits, a control device for conveying reagents out of the reagent supply containers through at least one reagent conduit into the retort, and system bottles. The reagent supply containers and the system bottles are connected via the pertinent reagent conduits to at least one valve. The valve is electrically connected to the control device such that at least one of filling and emptying of the system bottles with reagents from the reagent supply containers is controlled. This design allows differently dimensioned reagent supply containers while at the same time minimizing the space requirement for the reagent containers.

Tissue Processor

A method for controlling a tissue processor and a tissue processor for processing tissue samples is described. A retort is provided including a cover that can be opened and closed by an operator. The retort cover is closed prior to tissue processing. The actuation state of a first and a second operating element can be determined. An operator is prompted to confirm unlocking of the closed retort cover by actuating a second operating element. The tissue processing is interrupted when an actuation of the second operating element is determined and the closed retort cover is unlocked and is continued after the retort cover is once again locked. After having completed tissue processing the retort cover is unlocked. By means of the described method and tissue processor improper intervention during ongoing tissue processing is prevented.

Method for controlling a tissue processor and tissue processor

A tissue processor () is described, having a retort () for processing histological samples with different reagents, having multiple reagent reservoir vessels (), and having a conduit system and a control device () for delivering reagents out of the reagent reservoir vessels () into the retort (). A suction conduit () projects into each reagent reservoir vessel () through the vessel opening () for reagent withdrawal. A closure system () having an externally tapered and internally hollow closure plug () is provided for closing off the vessel opening (). The suction conduit () is guided through a cavity () of the closure plug () for reagent withdrawal.

Tissue processor

A device for stretching cryostatic sections includes a sectioning knife and a plate. The plate is arranged on a back side of the sectioning knife so that a gap for receiving the cryostatic section is formed between the back of the sectioning knife and the plate. A frame, open in a direction of an edge of the knife, is provided for receiving the plate. The frame has internally located shaped-on webs having support surfaces to support the plate, and a contact rim for setting the frame onto the back of the sectioning knife. A height difference between the contact rim and the support surfaces defines a dimension of the gap.
