A process for the treatment of oily hazardous solid materials such as for example spent bleaching earths. The process allows a safe and economical recovery of typically about 85% to 95% of the residual oil contained in such oily hazardous solid materials and transforms those ones into inert materials safe to transport, store, dispose of, or even makes them valuable for some applications. The process includes the production of a transportation slurry and at least one extraction slurry. The at least one extraction slurry is separated in at least one centrifuge decanter.

Continuous oil recovery process from spent oily solid material

The invention describes an apparatus for the desolventisation and toasting or an apparatus for the combined desolventisation, toasting, drying and cooling of a spent material, i.e., a solvent extraction residue obtained from the solvent extraction of oleaginous material. In particular, the invention describes desolventiser toaster or combined desolventiser toaster dryer cooler of improved design equipped with a side vapours outlet and optionally combined with at least one sieve stripping tray to allow nearly the full saturation of the outgoing vapours with hexane.

A vegetable oil physical refining process able to mitigate the occurrence of glycidyl esters (GE) including at least a deodorization step followed by a stripping step, wherein, the deodorization step includes contacting said vegetable oil with steam at a pressure above 5 mbara, during at least 10 minutes at a temperature of at least 230&#xb0; C., and wherein the stripping step includes stripping the oil resulting from the deodorization step at a pressure below 5 mbara and at a temperature not exceeding 280&#xb0; C. The process does not compromise the heat bleaching and the full removal of unwanted colours, taste and smell from the physically refined edible oil.

Dual mitigation of GE during the physical refining of edible oils and fats

A process for the combined degumming and neutralization of an oil containing phosphatides and FFA, the process comprising: dosing an aqueous degumming reactant into the oil to form a mixture; introducing the mixture into a first set of flow-through hydrodynamic cavitation reactors to form at the exit of the first set of flow-through hydrodynamic cavitation reactors a mixture; dosing, at the exit of the first set of flow-through hydrodynamic cavitation reactors an aqueous caustic solution into the oil to form a mixture of aqueous caustic dispersed into the oil; introducing the mixture of an aqueous caustic dispersed into the oil into a second set of flow-through hydrodynamic cavitation reactors to form a mixture of oil containing hydrated phosphatides and neutralized FFA (soaps); and separating the mixture of oil containing hydrated phosphatides and soaps to obtain an oil phase and an aqueous phase.

In line degumming and neutralization of oils and fats using hydrodynamic flow-through cavitation reactors

The present invention relates to an apparatus and a process for subjecting oleaginous vegetable material to a continuous prepressing for extracting at least part of the oil contained in said oleaginous vegetable material and producing a cake comprising an at least partially de-oiled oleaginous vegetable material. The apparatus comprises a mechanical prepress for mechanically compressing said oleaginous vegetable material, wherein the prepress is provided with a cake discharge for discharging the cake to a cooler. The cooler comprising means for subjecting the cake to a downward movement, and means for supplying a coolant gas, preferably air, in a counter-current flow to the downward movement of the cake with the purpose of cooling the cake.

Vegetable oil extraction improvement

A rotatable basket extractor for use in extracting oil from oleaginous feed material is disclosed. The extractor includes a rotatable rotor that includes a plurality of baskets extending radially outward from a central shaft, and the baskets receive and transport the oleaginous feed material while a motor rotates the baskets between a feed inlet and a feed outlet. The rotor is located within a housing and positioned above a screen through which miscella that drains from the feed material passes. The miscella is collected in a trough located below the screen and is sprayed onto the feed material bed positioned within the baskets in a counter-current manner. A suction device pulls vapor down between the particles of the feed material bed to decrease the drainage time of the miscella through the feed material.

Rotatable basket extractor

An improved desolventizer toaster and methods are provided wherein a solvent vapor recycle system may be employed to recycle solvent vapor throughout a portion of the desolventizer portion of the apparatus housing. In other embodiments of the invention, a water vapor recycle system may be employed to recycle water vapor throughout a portion of the toaster portion of the apparatus housing. The solvent vapor recycle system may comprise an appropriate meal dust separator, blower and superheater. The water vapor recycle system may comprise an appropriate ejector or blower and superheater. Water vapor recovered in the solvent extraction process may be used as a water vapor feed to the heated water vapor recycling system.

Desolventizer toaster with vapor recycle

A continuous process for the dry fractionation of edible oils and fats using one or more crystallisers in series, said process comprising the steps of: (a) providing a molten fat; (b) continuously feeding said molten oil or fat to the first of said one or more crystallisers in series in which the fat is gradually cooled by using heat exchangers containing a cooling medium so that a crystal slurry is formed, each of said one or more crystallisers exhibiting a temperature gradient, the temperature at the point where the molten or partially crystallised fat enters one of the crystallisers being higher than that at the point where the slurry leaves that crystalliser; (c) continuously withdrawing said slurry from the last of said one or more crystallisers; (d) separating said crystal slurry by filtration in a filter cake and a filtrate, wherein said process further comprises the step of at least partially melting fat encrustations deposited on said heat exchangers; and an oil fraction produced by therefrom.

Continuous fractionation of triglyceride oils

A process for the physical refining of edible oils and fats, said process comprising three consecutive stages, whereby in a first stage at least 60% by weight of the volatiles are evaporated in a flash vessel, in a second stage some residual volatiles are evaporated by countercurrent steam stripping using a packed column (), and in a third stage further residual volatiles are evaporated in a cross-flow tray system (), wherein the pressure in said flash vessel is maintained at a value below the pressure prevailing above said packed column (); and an apparatus for the physical refining of edible oils and fats comprising a flash vessel, a packed column (), sparging trays () and the means to maintain the pressure in said flash vessel at a value that is below the pressure prevailing above said packed column.

Physical refining of triglyceride oils and fats

A fatty material enzyme interesterification process comprising the steps of: a) providing a fatty material that has optionally undergone at least one prior purification treatment; b) introducing soap into said fatty material to form a soap-containing fatty material mixture, c) homogenising said soap-containing fatty material mixture by mixing, d) contacting said soap-containing fatty material mixture with lipase to produce a soap-containing interesterified fatty material, e) removing soaps from said soap-containing interesterified fatty material to yield interesterified fatty material, wherein said soap is either formed in-situ by addition of aqueous alkali to said fatty material or said soap is introduced directly into said fatty material.

Enzyme interesterification process

An apparatus for the solvent extraction of oil-bearing materials having a two-deck, loop-shaped housing is provided. The apparatus has a feed inlet for the materials and an outlet for the solvent-wet extracted materials. An assembly of two or more endless chains are connected by a series of baffle plates and driven by a set of two or more drive sprockets that transport the materials from the feed inlet to the outlet over an upper deck, along an elbow and over a lower deck the end of which serves as a draining section, both of which decks retain the materials but let miscella pass through. Inside the housing, the materials are sprayed with solvent that percolates through the materials and is collected below the decks and sprayed again onto the materials in a counter-current manner.

Low layer solvent extractor

A process for the recuperation of acylglycerols or acylglycerols containing free fatty acids from gums, present as aqueous emulsions, said gums being obtained by subjecting triglyceride oil to one or more degumming processes, said recuperation process comprising the steps of: subjecting said gums to enzymatic hydrolysis catalyzed by one or more enzymes with phospholipase activity; allowing said gums to separate into two or more phases, said two or more phases including at least an oily phase and an aqueous phase; and recuperating said oily phase comprising acylglycerols or acylglycerols containing free fatty acids; wherein said enzymatic hydrolysis is accelerated by adding at least part of the one or more enzymes with phospholipase activity to at least part of the water used in the recuperation and/or at least one degumming process; and/or at least part of said triglyceride oils treated in said degumming process; and/or by facilitating mixing at least part of said one or more enzymes with phospholipase activity into said gums by increasing the triglyceride oil content of said gums; and an oil obtained by this process.
