Disclosed is a laser system including a high reflector and an output coupler defining a resonator; a gain medium positioned in the resonator that produces optical gain at more than two desired wavelengths; a coarse selection system, positioned in the resonator and coupled to the gain medium, that produces single transverse modes at the desired wavelengths, with transmission values at the desired wavelengths selected such that power output at the desired wavelengths is maximized, and with transmission values at undesired wavelengths selected to retard lasing at the undesired wavelengths; and a fine selector positioned in the resonator and coupled to the gain medium, having a optical length such that all of the desired wavelengths are substantially simultaneously resonant within the optical length; whereby an output beam is generated. Also disclosed are full-color holography systems and three-dimension laser Doppler velocimetry systems incorporating the inventive laser system.

Single resonator for simultaneous multiple single-frequency wavelengths

A method for creating a dielectric coating on a substrate produces near bulk density metal oxide coatings with extremely low surface roughness, microstructure and low defect density. The coatings have a low scatter of less than 50 ppm, low loss of less than 100 ppm, and an environmental stability of 0.1 or less spectral shift. A high vacuum chamber is provided which includes a substrate carrier device, an electron beam gun, a substrate, an evaporant source of coating material, a plasma bridge neutralizer and an ion gun. Coating material is evaporated with the electron beam gun to form a coating material evaporant that is directed to the substrate. An ion gun is directed toward the substrate and produces ions that arrive substantially simultaneously with the coating material evaporant at the substrate. The ions provide a momentum assist to the coating material. The result is a formation of a desirable dielectric thin film of coating material on the substrate.

Method for producing low scatter, low loss, environmentally stable

A broad band polarizing beam splitter includes a first prism, including an incident beam surface, and an interface surface. A second prism is also included with an interface surface. The second prism is positioned adjacent to the first prism with the interface surfaces of the first and second prisms being adjacent to each other. A coating is disposed between the two interface surfaces. The coating is made of a geometric or arithmetic progression of layer thicknesses of alternating high and low refractive indices. A ratio of high refractive index to low refractive index is 1.1 or greater.

An optical component of a laser, of the type including a hot gas plasma region, a cold gas region, and producing large photon fluxes, includes an optical element and a coating means on a surface of the optical element exposed to the photon fluxes. The coating means is comprised of a material adapted to minimize photoreduction of the optical element induced by exposure to the photon fluxes. Optical elements of the present invention include windows, birefringent plates, intracavity lenses, polarizers and mirrors. The coating means includes a material selected from the group comprising Al.sub.2 O.sub.3, BeO, Y.sub.2 O.sub.3, MgO, B.sub.2 O.sub.3, Sc.sub.2 O.sub.3, LiF, NdF.sub.3, ThF.sub.4, Na.sub.3 AlF.sub.6, and mixtures thereof.

An optical component of a laser of the type including a hot gas plasma region, a cold gas region and producing large photon fluxed includes an optical element and a coating means on a surface of the optical element exposed to the photon fluxes. The coating means is comprised of a material adapted to minimize photoreduction of the optical element induced by exposure to the photon fluxes. Optical elements of the present invention include windows, birefringent plates, intra-cavity lenses, polarizers and mirrors.

A wavelength selective mirror provides single wavelength operation of a gas laser. In a specific embodiment an output coupler optical interference coating allows oscillation of the 488.0 nanometer line of the Argon ion laser blue/green spectrum while suppressing all other lines in that spectrum, particularly adjacent lines at 476.5 nanometers and 496.5 nanometers.
