A current converter apparatus includes a multi-phase current converter having current-converter modules for each phase that are electrically connected to one another and arranged in a current-converter cabinet. Each current-converter module has at least one semiconductor component arranged on a heat sink and includes just two semiconductor components connected to each other and connected to be controlled by a control component. The current-converter modules in the current-converter cabinet are arranged so that the current-converter modules of each current-converter phase form a horizontal row of modules arranged one beside the other and the rows are arranged vertically one above the other.

Current converter apparatus having a multi-phase current converter

A converter includes multiple submodules that are serially connected on the input side to a DC power supply circuit via an inductor. Each submodule has an input-side half bridge and an at least single-phase output-side full bridge and an intermediate circuit capacitor connecting the half bridge and the full bridge forming an intermediate DC voltage circuit. According to the method, the submodules are alternately connected to the power supply circuit, thereby also connecting the intermediate circuit capacitor of the respective connected submodule to the power supply circuit, and the intermediate circuit voltage dropping across the respective intermediate circuit capacitor of each submodule is measured. The submodule to be connected is selected according to the voltage deviation of the corresponding intermediate circuit voltage from a specified target voltage value.

Modular high-frequency converter, and method for operating same

A shaft-driven generator system has a generator connected to a converter. An inverter supplies an AC voltage on a network side. The converter and the inverter are linked via a DC link circuit. The inverter has at least two phase modules, which each have an upper and a lower valve branch, which each have a plurality of two-pole sub-systems connected electrically in series. Each sub-system has a unipolar storage capacitor, to which a series circuit of two gate-controlled turn-off semiconductor switches is connected electrically in parallel. Each semiconductor switch has a diode connected antiparallel therewith. Thus, a shaft-driven generator system is obtained that has a DC-link converter as a static frequency converter for complying with the required network feedback and for managing transient operating states.

A modular converter cabinet system of a converter having phase modules with upper and lower converter valves, wherein each converter valve has at least two converter cells and a branch inductor connected in series, includes a first valve cabinet, a second valve cabinet, and an inductor cabinet. The first and second valve cabinets each have several vertically spaced valve levels and several honeycomb cells arranged next to one another. The inductor cabinet has several vertically spaced phase levels. Two valve levels of at least one of the first and second valve cabinets are electrically connected to a respective phase level of the inductor cabinet that is arranged next to the at least one valve cabinet. A converter cabinet system which can be individually adapted to different converter output voltages in a simple manner is thus obtained.

A method for inhibiting a converter having at least two phase modules is disclosed. Each phase module has an upper and a lower valve branch, with each upper and lower valve branch having a plurality of two-pole submodules which are electrically connected in series and each have a unipolar energy storage capacitor, with a series connection of two turn-off semiconductor switches each being connected in parallel with an antiparallel connected diode. With the method, the submodules in an upper and a lower valve branch in each phase module in the converter are controlled to a switching state III, staggered in time. This considerably reduces the voltage load for the converter and a connected polyphase motor, or a connected power supply system.

Method for inhibiting a converter with distributed energy stores

The invention relates to a method for identifying dirt and/or dew on components of a voltage intermediate circuit converter. According to the invention, the temporal curve of a partial discharge pulsed current is detected at least during a precharging process of an intermediate circuit capacitor of the voltage intermediate circuit converter comprising at least one capacitor, wherein a frequency spectrum is calculated from said current pulse, and wherein depending of the result, a dirt warning and/or a dew warning is activated. Thus, the degree of dirt and/or dew of said voltage intermediate circuit converter can be determined at least during a charging process of an intermediate circuit capacitor of a voltage intermediate circuit converter, thereby preventing a breakdown including the consequences thereof.

Method for identifying dirt and/or dew on components of a voltage intermediate circuit converter

A method for controlling an inverter having at least two phase modules having respective upper and lower valve branches with at least three two-pole subsystems connected in series, includes in the event of failure of at least one subsystem in a faulty valve branch of a defective phase module the following method steps: a) identifying the faulty a defective upper or lower valve branch in the identified defective phase module in which one or more subsystems have failed; b) controlling a terminal voltage of the one or more failed subsystems in the faulty valve branch so as to be permanently zero; and c) controlling in each of the upper and lower fault-free valve branches having fault-free subsystems a number of fault-free subsystems corresponding to the one or more failed subsystems such that their terminal voltages of the controlled fault-free subsystems terminal voltages are permanently zero.

Redundant control method for a polyphase converter with distributed energy stores

The invention relates to a method for controlling a multi-phase power converter having at least two phase modules () comprising valve branches (T, . . . , T) having bipolar subsystems () connected in series, at low output frequencies (f). According to the invention, a target value (u(t), . . . , u(t)) of a valve branch voltage overlaps a common-mode voltage (uCM(t)) such that a sum of two valve branch voltages (u(t), U(t) or U(t), U(t) or U(t), U(t)) of each phase module () equals an intermediate circuit voltage (Ud) of said multi-phase power converter. In this manner a known converter having a triphase power converter comprising distributed energy accumulators on the grid and load side, or merely on the load side, may be utilized as a drive converter, which may start up from the idle state.

Method for controlling a polyphase converter with distributed energy stores at low output frequencies

An inverter having three phase modules with an upper valve arm and a lower valve arm having each at least three two-pole subsystems connected in series, which each subsystem having a storage capacitor, is controlled in the event of failure of one or more subsystems by setting the terminal voltage of the failed subsystems permanently to zero, setting the terminal voltage of a corresponding number of fault-free subsystems in corresponding fault-free valve branches likewise to zero, and increasing the capacitor voltages of the fault-free subsystems of the failed valve branches such that their sum is equal to the sum of the capacitor voltages of the subsystems of a corresponding fault-free valve branch, while leaving the control of the fault-free phase modules unchanged. In this way, a symmetrical voltage system with maximum amplitude is obtained at the inverter outputs.

A power supply device for a variable rotation speed drive includes a free-running converter connected to a land-based power grid, and an inverter connected to the variable rotation speed drive. A direct-current cable electrically connects the DC side of the converter with the DC side of the inverter. The inverter includes a plurality of phase modules having an upper and a lower valve branches with least two series-connected, two-pole subsystems with distributed energy storage devices. The inverter is located on the seabed in immediate vicinity of the variable rotation speed drive. Signal electronics of the inverter is located on land. In this way, the distance between the power supply on land and the drive on the ocean floor can reach several hundred kilometers, with ocean depths of several kilometers.

A converter has a network-side and a load-side power converter that are connected together on the DC side in an electrically conductive manner. An upper and a lower valve branch of each phase module, respectively, of the load-side power converter has at least one two-poled subsystem. At least one multiphase network-controlled power converter is provided as the network-side power converter. In this way, a converter is obtained, in particular an intermediate voltage circuit converter for intermediate voltages, which combines a simple and cost-effective feed circuit on the network side with a modular multilevel converter on the load side.

The invention relates to a method for controlling a power converter having at least two phase modules, which each have an upper and a lower valve branch, each having at least three series-connected two-pole subsystems, in the event of failure of at least one subsystem of a valve branch of a phase module. According to the invention, the valve branch (T, T) with the failed subsystem () is determined, and in each case a subsystem () of a valve branch (T, T), which corresponds to the faulty valve branch (T, T), of any fault-free phase module () is driven such that its terminal voltages (UX) are in each case zero. A polyphase power converter with distributed energy stores () is therefore operated with redundancy.

Control method for redundant use in the event of a fault in a polyphase converter with distributed energy stores

A static converter includes a current converter on the three-phase side and a current converter on the single-phase side, which are electrically conductively linked to one another on the DC voltage side, and which are respectively electrically conductively connected on the AC voltage side to a feeding three-phase network and a single-phase receiving network. According to an embodiment of the invention, one network-commutated current converter is provided as the current converter on the three-phase side, wherein the current converter on the single-phase side has two phase modules which are connected in parallel on the DC voltage side and whose current converter branches each have at least one two-pole subsystem. This results in a static converter which is simpler and costs less than a known static converter.

The invention relates to a method for controlling a power converter comprising at least two phase modules, each of which is provided with an upper and a lower valve leg that is equipped with at least two serially connected bipolar subsystems, respectively. According to the invention, the switching actions in the two valve legs (T, T; T, T; T, T) of each phase module () of the multiphase power converter having distributed energy stores are performed at a freely selected interval (&#x394;TZ) rather than synchronously. The inventive control method for a multiphase power converter having distributed energy stores thus makes it possible to dynamically regulate valve leg currents (i, i, i, i, i).
