A method for imaging includes illuminating a vehicle undercarriage with illumination in an atmospheric absorption band, imaging the vehicle undercarriage to form an image, wherein scanning includes filtering out illumination returned from the vehicle undercarriage that is outside the atmospheric absorption band. The method includes forming an image with the filtered illumination returned from the vehicle undercarriage.

Image artifact mitigation in scanners for entry control systems

A method of detecting occupants in a vehicle includes detecting an oncoming vehicle and acquiring a plurality of images of occupants in the vehicle in response to detection of the vehicle. The method includes performing automated facial detection on the plurality of images and adding a facial image for each face detected to a gallery of facial images for the occupants of the vehicle. The method includes performing automated facial recognition on the gallery of facial images to group the facial images into groups based on which occupant is in the respective facial images, and counting the final group of unique facial images to determine how many occupants are in the vehicle.

A system includes a camera defining an optical axis and a field of view defined about the optical axis. An illuminator is mounted offset from the optical axis and directed to illuminate at least a portion of the field of view, wherein the illuminator is operatively connected to the camera to provide illumination during an image capturing exposure of the camera. Devices, systems, and methods provide for improved facial detection and facial recognition in vehicle interior inspections. In various embodiments, one or more high-resolution cameras having one or more lens and filter attachments operate in conjunction with one or more auxiliary illumination devices and a related computer system. According to various embodiments, an auxiliary illumination device can be synchronized to one or more cameras, and configured to supply auxiliary illumination to facilitate capture of accurate and usable images. The filter(s) and advanced image processing solutions assist with facial detection and identifying individuals inside a vehicle, removing light glare and undesired reflections from a window surface, and capturing an image through a tinted window, among other things. Further, embodiments can compare a captured image to an authenticated image from a database, in order to confirm the identity of a vehicle occupant.

Apparatus, systems and methods for improved facial detection and recognition in vehicle inspection security systems

A method of controlling FPA system stabilization includes calculating FPA adjustments as a function of FPA temperature and adjusting a TEC set point to assist the FPA adjustments in attaining a predetermined level of FPA performance. Adjusting the TEC set point can include adjusting the TEC set point as a function of at least one of ambient temperature, FPA temperature, or disparity between the predetermined level of FPA performance and a level of FPA performance obtainable by calculating the FPA adjustments as a function of FPA temperature alone without adjusting the TEC set point.

Thermoelectric cooling management

An imaging method includes receiving electromagnetic radiation at a focal plane array of a handheld device. The electromagnetic radiation is processed within the handheld device, and visible images are displayed on the handheld device. The displayed visible images are indicative of a scene, and include a designator and a designator identifier when a high frequency laser pulse is in the scene. The designator and designator identifier represent the high frequency pulsed electromagnetic radiation received by the focal plane array when a high frequency pulse is present in the scene.

Imaging systems and methods

An illuminator includes a short wave infrared (SWIR) laser, a lens collimator, a first beam shaping diffuser, a second beam shaping diffuser, and a bandpass filter. The lens collimator is optically coupled to the laser for diverging a beam emitted by the laser. The first beam shaping diffuser is optically coupled to the lens collimator to diffuse a diverged beam produced by the lens collimator. The second beam shaping diffuser is optically coupled to the first beam shaping diffuser to further diffuse a diffused beam produced by the first beam shaping diffuser. The bandpass filter is optically connected to the second beam shaping diffuser configured to filter the emissions of a further diffused beam produced by the second beam shaping diffuser.

Vision enhancement illuminators

An illuminator comprising a short-wave infrared (SWIR) laser, a fiber optic, and a lens optic. The fiber optic is coupled to the SWIR laser for mixing the modes of a beam emitted by the SWIR laser. The lens optic is coupled to the fiber optic for shaping the beam into a top-hat beam profile. A method for creating SWIR illumination includes emitting a laser beam with multiple modes from a SWIR laser, transmitting the laser beam through a multi-mode fiber optic, and transmitting the laser beam through a lens optic. Transmitting the laser beam through the multi-mode fiber optic can including mixing modes of the laser beam thereby reducing speckle and constructive and destructive interference in the laser beam. Transmitting the laser beam through the lens optic can include generating a top-hat beam profile.
