A pneumatic object is provided with an elastomer layer which is gastight to inflation gases, said elastomer layer comprising, as predominant elastomer, a thermoplastic elastomer in the form of a block copolymer which comprises: (a) an elastomeric block comprising at least units derived from isobutylene, and having a glass transition temperature of less than or equal to &#x2212;20&#xb0; C., and (b) one or more thermoplastic blocks, the thermoplastic block(s) each comprising at least one first block consisting of units derived from at least one polymerizable monomer and at least one second block, said second block(s) being a random copolymer consisting of units derived from &#x3b1;-methylstyrene and of units derived from &#x3b2;-pinene. A process for rendering a pneumatic object gastight to inflation gases is also disclosed.

A pneumatic object is provided with a layer that is airtight to inflation gases. The layer includes an elastomer composition having at least a thermoplastic elastomer (TPE), as a sole elastomer or as a predominant elastomer by weight, and a hydrocarbon resin. A glass transition temperature of the hydrocarbon resin is above 0&#xb0; C. The TPE is a copolymer that includes at least a central polyisobutylene block. Optionally, the elastomer composition includes an extender oil. Also optionally, the elastomer composition includes a platy filler selected from a group that includes graphites and phyllosilicates, such as micas, clays, and talcs. The pneumatic object may be an inner tube or a pneumatic tyre for a motor vehicle.

A pneumatic tire with a built-in self-sealing layer is described. The tire includes an outer rubbery tread, a carcass reinforcement, a gastight layer located at an inside position relative to the carcass reinforcement, a protective layer positioned innermost, and a self-sealing layer adjacent to the protective layer and located at an inside position relative to the gastight layer. The protective layer is a chlorinated thermoplastic polymer film.
