The present disclosure is related to inorganic, biocompatible material compositions for bioactivatable devices, devices, and products comprising transition metal chalcogenides, such as molybdenum sulfides, that can be converted in vivo from a non-bioactive state to a bioactive state upon exposure to physiological conditions, wherein the bioactivated transition metal chalcogenide derivatives, such as molybdenum sulfide derivatives, exhibit copper-chelating activities. Various methods for the application of these compositions for enhancing biocompatibility and reducing or modulating copper-dependent biological reactions are provided.

Bioactivatable devices and related methods

A method for closing a puncture in tissue that includes advancing a guide member into proximity with the tissue, the guide member having a needle guide, positioning a distal end of the guide member with the needle guide toward the tissue to present an opening of the needle guide toward the tissue the needle guide cooperating with a suture securing device that is slidably coupled to the guide member and a suture attached to the suture securing device, deploying the suture securing device, the suture securing device comprising a body with an anchor point for the suture and features that allow the suture securing device to pierce the tissue and resist retraction through the tissue, and establishing tension in the suture to move the suture securing device toward another suture securing device to thereby close the puncture in the tissue.

Closure devices and methods

In accordance with the present disclosure there is provided an angioplasty catheter system and method for using such angioplasty catheter system that facilitates controllably delivering focalized pressure to complex lesions. The angioplasty catheter comprises an elongated member having a proximal end, a distal end, and at least one lumen extending at least partially through the elongated member, and an inflatable member proximally affixed to the elongated member adjacent to the distal end and in fluid communication with the at least one lumen, the inflatable member having a radius R and including at least two lobes (), the at least two lobes separated from each other by one or more waist portion () defined by two legs () and a waist portion length () such that upon pressurization, radial stress around the waist portion is directed away from the vessel wall and focalized into the lesion at an angle about perpendicular to the legs () of the upper and lower base of the waist portion () creating variable directional forces from to () to (') resulting in the preferential formation of lesion fractures at the waist of the inflatable member.

Angioplasty balloon catheter for treating vascular disease

A functionally integratable catheter system comprising functional units that can be assembled to produce different configurations. The functional units include: one or more FICS support catheters; one or more FICS dilators: one or more FICS PTA catheters; and one or more FICS lock-grip handles. Functional units can be provided in a pre-assembled form by the manufacturer, optionally pre-packaged as a device tray, for assembly into different configurations by clinical operators. The configurational adaptability of the FICS platform enables physicians to efficiently address multiple procedural aspects of treatment processes, including lesion access, lesion penetration, guide-wire negotiation, lesion recanalization, and dilation, by providing in situ treatment options, including intraluminal and/or extraluminal recanalization, and enables multi-stage, patient-customized treatments of complex lesions in vivo, including lesion-length-selective, multi-stage angioplasty treatment.

Mechanically actuated and functionally integratable catheter system for treating vascular and non-vascular diseases and related methods

The current document is directed to usable-length-selectable catheters that employ usable-length-selectable catheters to treat malformations, constrictions, obstructions, lesions, and blockages within patients' blood vessels. The usable length of the shaft of a usable-length-selectable catheter, to which the current application is directed, can be adjusted over a set of lengths prior to and during medical procedures.

Usable-length-selectable catheter to treat vascular pathologies

The current document is directed to improved PTA methodologies that significantly decrease the risks of persistent blood-vessel-wall distention and subsequent restenosis and the risks of PTA-induced dissection, hematoma, and pseudoaneurysm when used to treat blood vessels. Similar improved percutaneous-transluminal-interventional methods are used to treat non-vascular vessels. The improved methods include initial selection of balloon length and inflation pressure for initial treatment of primary lesions to minimize the risks of over-inflation and generation of undesirable localized forces during balloon inflation. The improved methods further include higher-pressure treatment of remaining secondary lesions that also minimizes the risks of over-inflation and generation of undesirable localized forces. The improved methods can be practiced using differently sized balloons and conventional instrumentation, but may be facilitated by use of balloon-length-adjustable catheters.

Precutaneous-transluminal methods that minimize vessel stress and trauma

A comprehensive multi-functional device platform that can be variably configured by clinician operators for patient-specific anatomies and clinical situations for treating complex and total occlusions is provided. This device platform enables physicians of any skill level to effectively treat the most challenging and complex lesions/occlusions more conveniently in less time. The Functionally Integratable Catheter System ('FICS System') represents a system of 'functional units' that can be configured together to operate synergistically, and comprises at least five main &#x201c;functional units,&#x201d; including: (a) FICS Support Catheter; (b) FICS Dilator; (c) FICS PTA Catheter; (d) FICS Lock-Grip Handle; and (e) FICS Steering Hub. Each &#x201c;functional unit&#x201d; can be provided in a pre-assembled form by the manufacturer, intended to be configured into variable combinations by clinician operators.

The current document is directed to length-adjustable catheters and methods that employ length-adjustable catheters to treat malformations, constrictions, obstructions, lesions, and blockages within patients' blood vessels. The length of the shaft of a length-adjustable catheter, to which the current application is directed, can be adjusted over a range of lengths prior to and during medical procedures. In many implementations, length adjustment is accompanied by indications, to the medical provider, of the extent of a length adjustment. The indications may include one or more of visual markings, haptic feedback, radio-opaque markings, and/or other types of indications. In many implementations, the variable-length mechanism of the length-adjustable catheter is mechanically lockable following length adjustment.

Length-adjustable catheter and method that employs a length-adjustable catheter to treat vascular pathologies

The present invention relates to a catheter system and methods of using such catheter system for the treatment of vascular and non-vascular pathologies. More specifically, the present invention is directed towards a catheter system for the actuation of a temporarily implantable member elastically deformable by hydraulic means.

A method for closing a puncture in a vessel wall of a blood vessel that includes advancing a guide member into proximity with a puncture in a vessel wall, positioning a distal end of an angle adjustment member distal to openings of the guide member, deploying the needle guides from the guide member through the openings, advancing the deflected needle guides and the suture securing devices through the vessel wall, retracting the needle guides to release the suture securing devices distally of the vessel wall, and establishing tension in the sutures to move the suture securing devices toward each other to thereby close the puncture.

Apparatus and methods for stenting are provided comprising a stent attached to a porous biocompatible material that is permeable to endothelial cell ingrowth, but impermeable to release of emboli of predetermined size. Preferred stent designs are provided, as well as preferred manufacturing techniques. Apparatus and methods are also provided for use at a vessel branching. Moreover, embodiments of the present invention may comprise a coating configured for localized delivery of therapeutic agents. Embodiments of the present invention are expected to provide enhanced embolic protection, improved force distribution, and improved recrossability, while reducing a risk of restenosis and thrombus formation.

Catheter for delivery of a medical device such as a stent or filter includes an inner tubular member and an outer tubular member movable relative to the inner tubular member. The outer tubular member is disposed at the distal end of the inner tubular member. The inner tubular member includes a fluid lumen defined therein, the fluid lumen having a fluid flow port directed to the exterior surface of the inner tubular member. A pressure chamber is defined by the inner tubular member, the outer tubular member, a proximal seal and a distal seal, and is in fluid communication with the fluid flow port, wherein fluid introduced through the fluid flow port and into the pressure chamber applies a force on the proximal seal to move the outer tubular member in a proximal direction allowing the medical device constrained by the outer tubular member to be released.

Catheter having hydraulic actuator

Adjustable balloon catheter including an inner tubular member that has an inflation lumen defined therein. An expandable member is coupled to the distal end portion of the inner tubular member and has an inner chamber in fluid communication with the inflation lumen. The expandable member is transitionable between a deflated configuration and an inflated configuration. The expandable member defines has a non-cylindrical shape along at least a portion of a working length thereof when in the inflated configuration. An outer tubular member is movable relative to the inner tubular member, the outer tubular member includes a distal end. The outer tubular member is moveable between an extended position disposed over the expandable member and a retracted position proximal to the extended position. The outer tubular member is selectively positioned between the extended position and the retracted position to define an exposed length of the working length of the expandable member.
