A nanocomposite can include a polyolefin composition having at least one polyolefin. The polyolefin composition can have a multimodal molecular weight distribution, such as a bimodal molecular weight distribution. The nanocomposite can also include at least 0.001% by weight of nanoparticles, relative to a total weight of the nanocomposite. The nanoparticles can be carbon nanoparticles, silicon nanoparticles, or SiC nanoparticles. The nanocomposite can be prepared by providing the polyolefin composition, providing the nanoparticles, and blending the nanoparticles with the polyolefin composition. Formed articles can include the nanocomposite.

Nanocomposite

A nanocomposite can include a polyolefin composition having at least one polyolefin. The polyolefin composition can have a multimodal molecular weight distribution, such as a bimodal molecular weight distribution. The nanocomposite can also include at least 5% by weight of nanoparticles, relative to a total weight of the nanocomposite. The nanoparticles can be carbon nanoparticles, silicon nanoparticles, or SiC nanoparticles. A nanocomposite masterbatch can be prepared by melt blending the polyolefin composition with the nanoparticles. A polyolefin resin can be prepared by blending the nanocomposite with a polyolefin. Formed articles can include the polyolefin resin.

Homo- or co-polymers of ethylene with combination of processability and toughness properties

Processes for preparing reinforced polymeric material and the materials formed therefrom are discussed herein. The processes generally include providing a polymeric matrix, providing single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWNT) or multiple-wall carbon nanotubes (MWNT), purifying by the nanotubes in a single step of dissolving a support and catalyst particles with an agent appropriate to the nature of the support to form a purified support, functionalising the purified support by reaction with an alkylamine to form a functionalized support, dispersing the nanotubes in the polymeric matrix by mixing in the molten state to form a mixture and optionally orienting the mixture by stretching.

Conductive polyolefins with good mechanical properties

The present invention discloses the use of a supercritical fluid to improve the homogeneity of heterogeneous bi- or multi-modal resins resulting from a physical or a chemical blend of two or more fractions of the same type of polymer resin, said fractions having different molecular weights or of two or more polymer resins having different chemical compositions, or both. It also discloses the use of a supercritical fluid to improve the dispersion of additives or fillers into a polymer resin. It further discloses the process for preparing the homogeneous resin.

Processing of bimodal polymers

A process for producing polypropylene having increased melt strength, the process comprising irradiating polypropylene which has been polymerised using a Ziegler-Natta catalyst with an electron beam having an energy of at least 5 MeV and a radiation dose of at least 10 kGray and mechanically processing the irradiated polypropylene to form long chain branches on the polypropylene molecules, whereby the polypropylene has a melt flow index (MFI) of at least 25 dg/min.

Production of polypropylene having improved properties

A polyethylene resin comprising from 35 to 49 wt. % of a first polyethylene fraction of high molecular weight and from 51 to 65 wt. % of a second polyethylene fraction of low molecular weight, the first polyethylene having a density of up to 0.930 g/cm, and an HLMI of less than 0.6 g/10 min and the second polyethylene fraction comprising a high density polyethylene having a density of at least 0.969 g/cmand an MIof greater than 10 g/10 min, and the polyethylene resin, having a density of greater than 0.946 g/cm, an HLMI of from 1 to 100 g/10 min, a dynamical viscosity, measured at 0.01 radians/second, greater than 200,000 Pa&#xb7;s and a ratio of the dynamical viscosities measured at, respectively 0.01 and 1 radians/second greater than 8.

Process for producing polyethylene pipe resins

A polyethylene resin comprising a blend of from 35 to 49 wt % of a first polyethylene fraction of high molecular weight and 51 to 65 wt % of a second polyethylene fraction of low molecular weight, the first polyethylene fraction comprising a linear low density polyethylene having a density of up to 0.928 g/cm, and an HLMI of less than 0.6 g/10 min and the second polyethylene fraction comprising a high density polyethylene having a density of at least 0.969 g/cm, and an MIof greater than 100 g/10 min, and the polyethylene resin, having a density of greater than 0.951 g/cmand an HLMI of from 1 to 100 g/10 min.

Polyethylene pipe resins and production thereof

A process for producing polypropylene having increased melt strength, the process comprising (i) homopolymerising polypropylene or copolymerising propylene with one or more comonomers selected from ethylene and C4 to C101-olefins to produce a polypropylene homopolymer or copolymer respectively having a double bond concentration of at least 0.1 per 10,000 carbon atoms, (11) irradiating the polypropylene with an electron beam having an energy of at least 5 MeV and at radiation dose of at least 5 kGray, and (iii) melting and mechanically processing the melt of polypropylene to form long chain branches on the polypropylene molecules.

Production of propylene copolymers having improved properties

Use of a multimodal polypropylene blend in melt processing wherein for enhancing a compromise between melt strength and drawability the blend has a dispersion index of at least 8 and a ratio Mz/Mn of at least 10.
