A spectrophotometer providing a sample measurement area of selectable size. The spectrophotometer includes a sphere defining a sample station, a lamp to illuminate the interior of the sphere and therefore the sample station, a color measurement engine including an aperture directed toward the sample station, and a measurement area size selector. The size selector includes a movable plate defining two or more holes of different sizes. The plate can be moved so that only one of the holes is aligned with the aperture to control the size of the measurement area sampled by the color measurement engine.

A multi-use cleaning machine capable of use as an upright machine or as a detachable cleaning module is disclosed. A detachable cleaning module is selectively mounted to the foot and support member of an upright machine. The cleaning module includes the motor, motor-driven fan, dirt receptacle, and hose. The machine may be operated as an upright cleaning machine or, alternatively, the module can be separated from the foot and support member and may be used independently of and at a great distance from the foot and support member for a wide variety of cleaning purposes. The machine may be a vacuum cleaning machine or a water extraction cleaning machine.

A multi-use vacuum capable of use as an upright vacuum or as a canister vacuum is disclosed. A detachable vacuum module is selectively mounted to the foot and support member of an upright vacuum. The vacuum module includes the vacuum motor, motor-driven fan, vacuum bag and hose. The vacuum may be operated as an upright vacuum or, alternatively, the module can be separated from the foot and support member and may be used independently of and at a great distance from the foot and support member for a wide variety of cleaning purposes.

A floor cleaning appliance having a pivotally mounted bracket for selectively tensioning an agitation motor drive belt is disclosed. The appliance includes a housing and a bracket pivotally mounted to the housing about a first axis of rotation. The bracket is supported in an operating position and a belt replacement position. An agitation member is selectively mounted to the bracket for rotation about a second axis of rotation. A drive motor is mounted in the housing having a drive shaft which rotates about a third axis of rotation. The drive belt is selectively mounted to the agitation member and the drive shaft when the bracket is mounted in the operating position. In this position the first axis of rotation lies on one side of a plane extending between the second and third axes of rotation whereas in the belt replacement position the first axis of rotation lies on the other side of the plane extending between the second and third axes of rotation. Therefore, the belt is under tension in the operating position for driving the agitation member and the belt is relaxed in the replacement position for ease of removal and replacement of the belt.
