A method for managing a current revision on prior revision of an order is described. A modified set of compensations tasks for addressing amendments indicated in the current revision are determined. The modified set of compensation tasks may be determined by carrying over one or more compensation tasks, associated with the prior revision, that have not yet been completed. Alternatively or additionally, the modified set of compensation tasks may be determined by adding new compensation tasks based on the current revision.

A system that provides a service order is provided. The system defines a service action including metadata that defines a pattern of a structured request to perform work on a customer-facing service that is based on a customer-facing service specification. The system further defines a customer-facing service specification including metadata that defines a customer-facing service that is provided, where a customer-facing service includes a technology-agnostic abstraction of a holistic capability. The system further defines a service order, where the service order includes one or more service order lines, where each service order line includes a service action and a customer-facing service based on a customer-facing service specification.

One exemplary method includes processing, in accordance to an orchestration plan, an order entity containing an order item, wherein the orchestration plan is functioning on a processing layer executed by electronic order management system. The method further includes respectively receiving, from each of one or more orchestration order components associated with the orchestration plan, state information corresponding to a child order item contained in a child order entity, wherein the state information respectively received by each of the one or more orchestration order components is respectively reflected in an order component order item included within the one or more orchestration order components and determining a current processing state for the order item by aggregating the state information reflected in all of the order component order items.
