Embodiments of the invention provide a method of inhibiting precipitation of biodiesel fuel components. The method includes providing a biodiesel fuel composition; providing a copolymer comprising at least first and second polymer units, said first polymer units derived from a carboxylic acid anhydride and said second polymer units derived from an olefin; and blending said copolymer with the biodiesel fuel to form a treated fuel composition. Alternatively, instead of the copolymer, a dialkylene glycol additive can be provided. Embodiments of the invention provide a method of reducing the cold soak filter blocking tendency of a biodiesel fuel composition.

Methods of inhibiting precipitation of biodiesel fuel components

The removal of fluoroalkanes from fluoroalkane-containing hydrocarbon streams, preferably Cto Chydrocarbon streams. The fluoroalkane-containing hydrocarbon stream is contacted with an adsorbent containing a strong acid function, preferably a silica gel or a strong cation ion-exchange resin having sulfonic acid functionality.

Removal of light fluoroalkanes from hydrocarbon streams

This invention relates to process for increasing color quality and thermal stability of fuel. Fuel that is provided as a feedstock is contacted or treated with an acidic, ion-exchange resin to increase the color quality and stability of the fuel. The process provides the benefit of substantially increasing the long term quality of both color and oxidation (JFTOT) stability.

Method for increasing color quality and stability of fuel

A lubricant composition for improving electrical properties in lubricant systems to reduce the formation of sludge and varnish is disclosed. The lubricant composition comprises a base oil and an effective amount of antistatic additive to provide the composition with an electrical conductivity of at least about 50 pS/m at 25&#xb0; C. and a dielectric strength of at least 300 V/mil.

Lubricant composition with improved electrical properties

The addition of alkyl salicylic acids and esters represented by Formula I where R&#x2550;H or Cto Clinear alkyl group; R&#x2550;H or linear Cto Ccarbonyl group; and R=linear Cto Calkyl group reduces the pour point of a hydrocarbon base oil. Thus, both a method for reducing the pour point of hydrocarbon oils and lubricating composition containing pour point reducing salicylates are provided. The hydrocarbon base oil in such method and composition preferably is a Group III base oil.

Hydrocarbon fluids with improved pour point

A lubricating composition is provided that has good elastomer compatibility and friction-reduced properties which comprises a base oil having a viscosity index (VI) greater than about 80, a kinematic viscosity (Kv) at 100&#xb0; C. of from about 2 mm/s to about 50 mm/s, containing 90 wt % or more saturates, having less than about 5 ppm sulfur, and wherein the base oil is derived from a waxy feed; said composition being free of a tallow diaminepropane dioleate; and containing a minor amount of (a) a polylester of an aliphatic carboxylic acid having 12 to 24 carbon atoms and (b) an oil soluble or oil dispersible molybdenum compound.

Lubricating oil composition

The present invention provides a lubricating composition comprising a major amount of a GTL lubricating base oil and a friction modifier consisting essentially of oil soluble fatty acid esters of a polyol. Such lubricating compositions have reductions in their friction coefficients that are greater than similar compositions formulated with Group III or PAO base oils.

Fuel economy lubricant compositions

A grease composition is provided that exhibits good low temperature torque and low oil separation. The grease comprises a base oil having a VI greater than about 120, a pour point below about &#x2212;20&#xb0; C. wherein the base oil contains about 10 wt % to about 100 wt % of a gas to liquid base stock and from 0 wt % to about 90 wt % of a polyalphaolefin fluid.

Grease compositions

A lubricant composition for providing friction reducing properties and VI and solvency improving properties in a lubricant system is disclosed. The lubricant composition comprises a major amount of at least one base oil and an effective amount of a high viscosity polyester additive having a kinematic viscosity at 100&#xb0; C. of at least about 2,500 mm/s.

Lubricant compositions with improved properties

The pour point of a lubricating composition consisting essentially of from about 5 wt % to about 100 wt % of a Group III base stock and from 0 wt % to about 95 wt % of a Group IV base stock is reduced by incorporating in the lubricating composition an effective amount of a polyol ester represented by Formula I wherein x=OH or CHOH; y=H, CH, CHCH, or CHOH; and Ris an aliphatic hydrocarbyl group having from about 16 to about 30 carbon atoms.

Lubricating compositions

The present invention is a method for operating a hydraulic system at pressures of about 4000 psi or higher, preferably about 5000 psi or higher by using as the lubricant a phosphate ester hydraulic oil comprising a fire resistant phosphate esters base stock, a viscosity index improver, an anti erosion agent, an acid scavenger. The fluid used in the present method can also contain rust inhibitors and/or antioxidants.

Method for lubricating high pressure hydraulic system using phosphate ester hydraulic fluid

Disclosed are phosphate ester base fluids and aircraft hydraulic fluids containing mixed n-butyl/isobutyl phosphate ester components. The disclosed aircraft hydraulic fluids contain from about 30 to about 95 weight percent, based on the total weight of the fluid, of n-butyl diisobutyl phosphate or di-n-butyl isobutyl phosphate or a mixture thereof; from 0 to about 15 weight percent, based on the total weight of the fluid, of one or more triaryl phosphates; and an effective amount of a viscosity index improver, an acid control additive and an erosion inhibitor.

Elemental sulfur and sulfur contaminants causing silver corrosion and present in fluids such as refined petroleum products, e.g., gasoline, jet, diesel, kerosene or fuel additives such as ethers, is removed from such fluids by contacting the contaminated fluid containing indigenous hydrocarbyl mercaptan or by adding to the fluids which lack or have insufficient indigenous hydrocarbyl mercaptan a quantity of hydrocarbyl mercaptan and passing the resulting mixture through an adsorbent selected from the group consisting of alumina, bayerite, brucite and hydrotalcite like materials of the formula M.sub.x.sup.2+ M.sub.y.sup.3+ (OH).sub.2x+3y-z (NO.sub.3) mH.sub.2 O wherein M.sup.2+ is magnesium, M.sup.3+ is aluminum, and x, y and z are values from 1 to 6 and m is the number of waters of hydration.

Sulfur removal from hydrocarbon fluids by mixing with organo mercaptan

Elemental sulfur present in fluids such as refined petroleum products, e.g., gasoline, jet, diesel, kerosene or fuel additives such as ethers, is removed from such fluids by contacting the contaminated fluid with an adsorbent of Mg2AlNO3 or Mg3AlNO3 or by adding to the fluids a quantity of hydrocarbyl mercaptan and passing the resulting mixture through an adsorbent selected from the group consisting of alumina, bayerite, brucite and hydrotalcite like materials of the formula M.sub.x.sup.2+ M.sub.y.sup.3+ (OH).sub.2x+3y-z (NO.sub.3)mH.sub.2 O wherein M.sup.2+ is Magnesium, M.sup.3+ is aluminum, and x, y and z are values from 1 to 6 and m is the number of waters of hydration.
